How about a redo of the invasion angle, except done right this time. Bring up the NXT 5 (Balor, Itami, Owens, Zayn, Neville) as a group of highly talented athletes who are invading WWE to show them that they're superior to the main roster talent. Have them hold their own against Cena, Bryan, Orton etc, immediately establishing themselves as main event talent.

Maybe. The one I'm not sure on is Owens. I think I'd rather see him as a loner heel.

Balor, Itami, and Owens are the only ones I can see as immediate main event level talent. Neville might take a bit of time and Zayn might need a YES! Movement to get there.

Then what makes NXT as interesting?

Because it worked so well the last time, right?

After what the Shield did I'm not even sure how it would look for a stable to debut that way. The Shield's booking has been the best I've seen for any stable of new guys in my entire WWE viewing history (since the mid-90s).
It wouldn't live up to the hype.

Then what makes NXT as interesting? Eh, I'd be fine on that front since my favorite NXT guy's by far Tyler Breeze, but I know I'm kind of alone on that.

Neville - Mighty Mouse. Zayn - Oil Can Harry. Balor - Popeye. Owens - Bluto. Itami - Astro Boy.
I could dig that.

After WM have Roman turn heel and realign with Rollins, then bring in Balor, Itami, and Neville to form the Mega Shield to oppose Bryan, Cena, Ziggler, and Ryback all summer.

I like them as a group but not as invaders. I'd align them all with Hunter and Seth, make Owens the top guy, Balor the second and Zayn is the guy who wants the opportunity but doesn't like the methods the others use. Eventually he saves someone from Owens and ends up an enemy of the remaining 4 and fights through them all to get a shot at Seth and the title provided it took off as hoped.

If we are using Zayn as anything other than a never say die babyface, just no.

Because it worked so well the last time, right? I still hold out hope that Skip Sheffield can come back and stop that monster Ryback; Skip's the only one with the strength to match him! Where's that lunk been, anyways?

No thanks. Some are born babyfaces and others are born heels. Coming up separately will be way better.

Where's that lunk been, anyways? I think in canon WWE has admitted it's the same person. No thanks. Some are born babyfaces and others are born heels. Coming up separately will be way better. The only one in that group who I would say is a born baby face is Sami, all the others are easy to picture as heels. I didn't think I'd say that about Neville, but after seeing him heeling it up the last few months of his title reign, I'm a believer.

Noooooo!
I've grown to hate the indy vs WWE angle that the company is so keen on pushing. I don't care where they've come from I just like their current NXT (or WWE) incarnations, they should be treated like individual "WWE superstars" not an indy super-group.
Acknowledging their past is fine but it shouldn't be their defining characteristic. The exception is Owens hating that his contemporaries had passed him by and now being desperate to make up for lost time, that's original and compelling so all the more reason not to but him in a stable.
In retrospect that's a large part of why The Shield worked, with Ohno they would have been that indy stable, with Reigns they were just a part of WWE. Hell many still tried to dismissively label them NXT/RoH/indy wrestlers despite none of those labels applying to all three of them so who knows what it would be like if they actually could be classed that way.

We already had The Shield. I would much rather they each get individual things happening, I'm tired of heel stables.
