God I hope this is the last of it and there weren't more attacks planned and that we won't see racist assholes attacking any more mosques. Please please please be over. Considering I feel hungover from this and it happened hundreds of kilometres away and no-one I know was involved, I can't even begin to imagine how the families and friends of the victims must feel.
Good thing that both Muslim and Jewish representatives are already insisting on the importance of staying united and to not fall for the terrorists' goal of raising people against one-another.
Man, f*** this year already. It's only been a week and I want it to be over and done with.

Terrible. I haven't heard that being reported in the U.S. media. Shocker 'Cuz, in Murica, when bad things happen to Muslims, it's a-okay. Seriously, though, this is all deplorable. I would have not wanted a dead hostage, but alas, that did not happen. Hell, when mosques and other Islamic buildings are firebombed in our own country they don't usually get coverage (and it happens. In fact, it happened in my town and barely made page 14 of the local news section). I will say, at least, that these recent mosque burnings in France at least made the news banner on the bottom of the screen on CNN and MSNBC. I am not sure about Fox News since I have Dish Network and could not watch them if I wanted to (which I don't), nor do I know if Bloomberg News mentioned it (I downgraded recently and lost it and Al Jazeera America).

Seriously hope this is the last of it.
I'm sorry your country had to go through this.
Not surprisingly the UK is on high alert at this time.
And no, I don't believe a small group of bad people = everyone in the same religion. Sadly brainless idiotic groups like Britain first want you to believe that they are.

You state that a small group of bad people does not reflect on their source group as a whole, but you group the an entire nation together based on their dumbest and most bigoted citizens.

I'm not sure if it was mentioned earlier in the thread, but the cop who died in the line of duty in the Charlie Hebdo attacks was Muslim. His name was Ahmed Merabet. He defies the message of terror and hatred these extremists wanted to spread: a Muslim man who gave his life to protect the rights and lives of people who mocked his faith. Je suis Charlie. Je suis Ahmed. Je suis Juif.

Je suis Ahmed. Je suis Juif. I kind of wonder if it's when they realized this that they decided to execute him. After all, they represent what they hate the most: a moderate Muslim who lived in peace with the rest of the people, was well integrated and protected people regardless of their faith or ethnicity. You know, I'm usually not a fan of either the police or the army but man do I admire them for their work in this situation. It is of course horrible that four innocent people died just because they were on the path of a coward, but I find it amazing that there weren't more victims. had they not handled the crisis this well, it could have so easily have ended in a complete bloodbath (remember there were dozens of people in the supermarket when the gunman entered it, including a newborn baby). They saved many lives, some of them got hurt but none of them hesitated to put their own lives on the line to protect the innocent and put an end to this madness, knowing fully well that those were people who had not hesitated to kill cops and even specifically targeted them in several cases. They deserve all the praise they can get, not to mention handling two separate hostage crises at the same time is especially complicated. Man, I seriously need something uplifting now, I need to start laughing again.

Also, I heard something very true: even though I would have preferred to have the terrorists captured alive, there is a sort of poetic justice in having people who killed journalists for what they printed die for their crimes in a printing house.

It's a six-years-old story about a controversy unrelated to the attacks... I'm not sure I get what you're getting at.

I think now that the majority of the event is over, it's time to let this thread go.
