I love the show, but seriously, go into work tomorrow and when asks you something say you gotta call a friend and will be right back.
I know the show is entertainment and scripted and all that, but if they ask other people for advice all the time, shouldn't those other people have the show? I've noticed since American Restoration and Counting Cars come on, now they never call those guys for advice anymore.

They also don't call anyone back who asks for a raise.

It's part of the charm. They really shouldn't know everything. Conversely Hardcore Pawn never call in experts and they come off very snooty. I like both shows for their presentations though.
I heard that due to some state law the guys featured on the Pawn Stars show aren't even allowed to work there anymore. I never checked into that I just assumed it could be true or total bullshit.

What I don't get is how Rick keeps threatening to fire Chum. It's like, he probably makes 10x as much from History Channel than he ever did from the pawn store.

I like the show but I tend to ignore their antics and pay attention to the crap that's getting pawned.

Rick said in his book that he just does it for the show.

But what the Detroit pawn shop deals with isn't normally as old or exotic as what the Vegas pawn shop deals with. Detroit is a more run of the mill shop that deals with TVs, jewelry, and stolen lawn equipment. You don't need experts to tell you how much that stuff is worth.

Rick said in his book that he just does it for the show. Yup. It's part of the show. No pawn store in real life will keep calling on experts. I think that's something History channel execs insisted on.

They still work there but they have to meet people in a hallway where cameras aren't allowed to follow.

I got a friend who works on famous people's poop, I want to make sure that this is in fact Kurt Cobain's dookie before I want to buy it for 1/4 then what it's worth.

I think that's something History channel execs insisted on. That was part of my original point. Anyone who knows anything is someone else, so just give them shows and drop the pretense of a pawn shop completely. ------------ I do like the implication Corey and Chum, more so Chum, are scrapping by on minimum wage or just a bit more. Like when Chum blew his life savings in the stock market.....Lost $50. Why so many sitcom elements exist in the show is somewhat bizarre.

Look, I'm not sure why they even have jobs, so I'm gonna bring in my friend who's an expert on Pawn Shop employment, alright?

Simple, because Pawn Stars was there first and is highly rated. Producers saw money and spun off two fairly successful other shows. Although American Restoration feels like a different show between it's first and second season. Mostly because of the wife and step-son. I'm not as attached to the comedic elements. Those are bizarre to me and comes off as just so phony. I heard Corey and Chum receive something like $1000 to appear at clubs. I'm not saying show these guys rolling like rappers... but let's not kid ourselves. These guys are doing very well thanks to this show. Have you seen Rick's new wife?
