Which may explain all those recent ones he's been doing, like the Superman one on Raw and now this Looney Tunes inspired stuff on Smackdown. Is Vince just drawing off stuff from his childhood now to try and get Reigns over? This explains the Mighty Mouse rumor for Adrian Neville.

For anybody who hasn't seen it, the promo in question.

That's your heir apparent to John Cena? Really?

I actually liked that just for the wink at the camera. Dude knows it sucks but he's totally playing it as cool as Diesel did. I do like Roman, I do want him to succeed and don't want him to get the backlash Cena got and still gets. Wish WWE would pull back a bit to prevent it but you know they're not going to.

This is the guy the WWE wants to be the new face of the company.
Boy, are they butchering Reigns. Goldberg got over by kicking ass, not making catchphrases you cannot repeat in a public environment and weak cartoon comparisons.

The wink was the worst part outside of his cute alliteration line. Like, if it was a subtle/quick wink, it would've felt like he was playing it off, it would've had some semblance of being cool. But he looked way too proud of himself for winking, and to me just drove home how shitty it all was.

In the spirit of alliteration: Seriously, stupid, silly shit.

I doubt that the wink was something un-scripted either, it was like something out of Lion King. "Pumbaa, not in front of the kids." There's no good reason for it, on his part or WWE's part. "heheh, it sucked, but he KNEW it!" If that's the best we can do...

"I'm gonna kick your ass" should have been the entirety of that promo. That really is all you need with Reigns.

I feel sorry for Reigns. So little of this is his fault and if it does hit the fan and there's a backlash, it could ruin him. Cena at least had undeniable charisma and natural promo skills, Reigns just doesn't yet. They're not doing him any favours by pushing him so hard with such crap material and before he's experienced enough to succeed on top. I don't feel sorry for him at all. Yeah, these promos stink, but he doesn't look to be putting in any effort whatsoever to improve in other areas. He's still mediocre at everything except looking "badass."

If he held up a sign with a picture of a screw and a baseball while interacting with Dean Ambrose, we may have a new boom period on our hands. I want nothing to do with Roman Reigns as a main eventer.

You can really tell when Vince thinks that someone is going to be a big star. It's a special honor to have the amazing ideas from the mind grapes of Vinnie Mac bestowed upon you. This rated right up there with the Seth Rollins orangutan promo and Dean Ambrose dismembering a mannequin. He doesn't give these great ideas to just anyone, people. So yeah, I'm starting to feel a little sorry for Roman...

"I'm gonna kick your ass" should have been the entirety of that promo. That really is all you need with Reigns. Roman walks down, says hello to his "brother", then says "I'm gonna kick your ass", before doing just that.

It's like they want him to be some terrible action hero only geriatric old men could appreciate rather than a dude who beats the shit out of people because he can.

Why would Dave "hate to say it"?
Vince has been out of touch for years, and at this rate he's going to pull a Simpsons and wind up sucking for longer than he's been good.

"I'm gonna kick your ass" should have been the entirety of that promo. That really is all you need with Reigns. They have a certain face of the company type character, and they're trying to find the right guy to fill that role. They don't want their top face to be a guy who just says "I'm gonna kick your ass", they want him to ham it up and show everyone how clever he is for a few minutes, then get down to brass tacks like no one else. And he's gotta be sexy, in a way Vince McMahon is down with.
