Go to any USA Wal-mart and those two would be considered Calista Flockhart by comparison. Ha I'm watching Brothers and Sisters just as I saw your post I hate people like these, because people with anti-welfare ideological agendas can use these two sacks of shit to demonise people with legitimate disabilities and illnesses who need benefits and support. Totally agree, it makes me so angry too. There is noone I know personally but there are many people who cannot physically work (or have much of a life) due to lifelong medical conditions and they are being called up to meetings and health evaluations and having their benefits cut as some clown thinks they are fit for work, which leads to people having to cut out meals etc in order to pay their heating/electricity/rent, that then leads to greater ill health mentally, which the provision of is being slashed across the country. It's just terribly sad.

So she's happy being fat with numerous health issues and limited mobility but would be depressed being thinner without the health problems and able to go where she pleases?

I never understand why people agree to do these kind of stories.
All the talk about "I'm meant to be like this so why bother" is frustrating. They're lying to themselves, and I can't decide whether it's sad or infuriating. No exercise and eating crap makes you fat and keeps you fat...who'd have thought it? There was an interesting show on the BBC about the science of eating the other day which they need to watch. More so the daughter because the mother is stuck in her ways and decided that path for herself; if the daughter had been brought up by someone with sense she probably would have ended up differently.
Benefits is a hot topic in the UK at the moment. These two aren't as bad as some, but anyone who boasts about the money they can make just claiming benefits, rather than working, should have them taken away.

Yeah, articles like this smack of somebody publishing from somewhere looking to put out an agenda; in any system that gives benefits, there will be people who do stuff like this, but they're a very, very small number. Yet stories like these get us all riled up and looking at anybody who receives benefits (which is basically everybody in Western society on some level, but you know what I mean) as if they're leaches who don't want to do their fair share or whatever.
Honestly, I get the notion of somebody being happier fat than they would be getting thin; I've heard people who've said that, albeit not people who are over 600 pounds. In an ideal world, people could live however they wanted, get by just fine, and do whatever they feel like doing. But in a world where we have medical costs, those who do nothing to take care of themselves wind up costing everybody a lot, because these costs are all shared on some level.

Man, these stories aren't as fun when they're close to home rather than Florida based.

If they are happy being fat, good for then.Still saying that working out ,or maybe changing diet is ignorant.
Tough i agree that it is unfortunate that food that is bad for you is cheaper than healthy food.
If it was the opposite,i would never buy pop, only orange juice.

This kind of stuff really makes me mad. They each get 20k a year for doing nothing, they probably got their scooters for free too. I have to work, sometimes very long hours for a modest wage, and can't get any kind of assistance. Jut a couple of moo-moos milking the system.

I think you should only get some kind of social security if you're obese due to health issues. By health issues I mean an extremely underactive thyroid which just makes you obese or other health problems which leads to weight gain. You should have a doctor and every test imaginable to make sure you actually suffer from this illness and only then should you get money for it.
These two are just obese individuals who could lose the weight but choose not to. You can't really count it as a disability if a year of healthy dieting and exercise (if that) can fix it. They're just two lazy individuals who add absolutely zero to society. The mother is 44 and she looks 60-65 and the daughter looks relatively young so I assume she's probably a teenager.
Also, I did a check of just how much 40,000 GBP would be in Australian Dollars and that is almost 74,000 AUD a year. With the average salary here being 40-50 thousand a year it's rare that you find a household in this country making that amount of money unless both have some kind of education and career and even then it'd probably only be 90-100k. Much easier to sit home and take home 74,000 a year just for being a fat waste of life.

Yeah, I was totally happier when I was bigger and got picked on as a kid. Won't be long until these wastes of space die of young age due to heart and health problems. Harsh but if you live your life like this, there's really no point.

This is where the system needs to change. People on public aid should be required to provide a monthly budget to the government to show where that aid is going, and be subject to audit at any time. That includes making healthier life choices in a case like this. If someone is on disability for being fat, and spends all their money on cheeseburgers and soda, it's a lost cause that we shouldn't be funding. Yes, freedom, yes, but when tax payers/government money is sustaining you, I think you ought to lose some of that for transparency purposes. If you can make yourself a productive member of society, by god eat all the burgers and drink all the soda. But not on the public dime.
If they can't keep up their end of the bargain, they get no aid. If there are children involved, they should be taken away from the family and go into foster care. It's inexcusable that they flaunt their lifestyle this way, with a sheen of self-righteousness, when a lot of working people have less to show for it.
People NEED this shit, but morons like this ruin it for everyone. They suck up tax money and divide us politically.
