With the Royal Rumble coming up this weekend, there will be a lot of stuff going on on the internet this week. Speculation on winners, surprise entrants being rumored, praise/criticism for expected results, etc. No matter who wins any of the matches or what happens this weekend, the couple of days before the Rumble and the day after are going to be rampant with tons of different perspectives and spoilers towards what will/already happened on Sunday. For example, last year we saw how crazy things got online after the Rumble (something I wish I avoided). In 2011, practically everyone knew about Booker T and Kevin Nash being in the Rumble and it partially ruined the surprise.
So where am I going with all of this? I'm proposing a challenge to anyone out there regarding this week. I myself am going to do this and want to see if anyone else is willing to participate to see their results. From Friday until Tuesday morning, I am avoiding all things internet-related from the world of wrestling. This includes all forums, news sites, and if need be even Twitter. Why do I want to do this? A few reasons. I want to be completely surprised as to what happens on Sunday and don't want to see any kind of speculation/rumors whatsoever. I don't want to know who could be in the Rumble, who could win the Rumble, who could win the title match, etc. On the flip side, I also want to enjoy/hate on the show based on my own perspective and not be influenced by anyone else's. A good example of that for me was when Nikki turned on Brie at SummerSlam. I predicted it would happen, only because so many people on here and other places were so certain it would happen. I probably wouldn't have seen it coming otherwise and it somewhat took away from the match. Not to mention I was one of the few who enjoyed the Rumble show last year but the negativity surrounding it everywhere made it hard to just enjoy it for what it was for me.
So just to reiterate, the challenge is to not touch a wrestling website at all from Friday until Tuesday morning after Raw's been over. It's a test of restraint since plenty of great or horrible things could happen in those couple of days, but I want to know how I'll look at the show with absolutely no outside bias playing a role in it. I want to see if anyone else is willing to do this as well to see how they enjoy the shows next week.
