Question popped into my head after watching the final edition of Monday Night War on the Network. Mainly wondering for the last simulcast part of the show when there would have been no point in channel flipping really...

I was watching Raw consistently for years at that point, however that particular night I was switching back and forth.
I wonder what WCW's rating was. I would assume given the situation, the rating was higher than normal.

I would assume given the situation, the rating was higher than normal. 2.6, up from a 2.1 the previous week.... That 2.6 was the highest rating they had done since November of the previous year (they never achieved an overall 3.0 for any show after September 2000)... Raw did a 5.2 that night, up from a previous week's 4.8. So on the final ever night of the MNW, Raw just barely did indeed have twice the number of viewers that Nitro had. I watched Nitro. Then I watched and taped the replay of Nitro.

Just Raw for me. Raw got its first airing on a Friday night in the UK in 2001, I didn't have access to the internet back then, so having no idea about WCW being bought out, you can imagine how much my mind was totally blown by what I was witnessing. I actually thought it was just part of an angle initially.

In theory, but in practice even if they'd kept the TV slot, they were losing their main eventers for various reasons while having not really built anybody up, the ownership change to Bischoff was coming up and he was a big part of what screwed the company up in the first place, and the company was still hemorrhaging money. The problem was likely just going to get worse, even if the actual quality of the shows was slowly turning around.

I was 8 and was watching with my Dad and we flipped back and forth.
Remember Nitro being the much better show because it didn't have the Vince/Trish/Linda bullshit. Even at that age, that kind of story didn't do much for me.
We had a family friend over who was a on-again, off-again enhancement talent for Mid South back in the day. He wanted to watch Nitro more because he knew more of the people on that show.

By that point I had stopped flipping between channels and was watching only Raw, but that night it was like 1997 all over again. Frickin surreal to watch.

The problem was likely just going to get worse, even if the actual quality of the shows was slowly turning around. But only two years later WWE lost Austin and Rock and Foley was already done. They had to rely on WCW guys like Jericho, Golberg, Steiner, and Booker while they were in a mad scramble to make new main eventers. There was also the XFL, which wound up costing WWE 35 mil. If Turner would've continued to support WCW instead of giving up on it, they still had a chance to win the war.

I was at Raw live and recording Nitro. What a surreal experience since it was my first time going to a Raw taping.

I switched back and forth but taped Nitro. I wore that tape of the final Nitro out over the spring of 2001. It was such a mind-blowing episode, and as a WCW fan who respected the hell out of the WWF and Vince McMahon, I eagerly awaited the rebirth of my company under more capable hands.
Oh.
