I've heard the old Stories about how guys used to travel in packs to save money, etc. My question is, is modern day WWE travel still that way? I know guys like John Cena and CM Punk have busses, but what dO Damien Sandow and Tyson Kidd do? Do they fly themselves out to cities and rent cars for the next few nights, along with hotels, and have to pay for it all?
I've heard about The Shield driving together and Daniel Bryan/THE Ryback, too, but are their expenses their own? I mean, WWE is a modern, traded business. I work for a casino, if they decide I need to go to Vegas for a seminar or some event, they fly me, pay for my hotel, some food stipend, and rent me a car. Is WWE still backwards with this and making their guys pay for things?

I seem to recall that Lesnar once purchased his own plane to help with the travel.

In fairness, I'd buy my own plane if I had the money.

From what I remember reading, WWE pays for their flights to the area/state they are working in for that house show/TV loop, and flights home again. Any travel/accommodation in between is paid for by the talent. International is different as they put them on the tour buses and ship them around Europe!
Although you'd imagine Tyson Kidd might be one of those guys who would have to share cars etc to keep costs down, the E! Total Divas contracts probably pay he and Nattie enough to travel together alone (and likely for a lot of the cast, all to try and get some footage for the show).

I've always found it ridiculous that WWE only pays for flights.
Between the cost of accomodation, car hire, medical insurance etc....I wonder whether it's worth being a lower/mid-card guy. Those costs must eat into salaries drastically.

And as far as flights only main eventers and X-Pac get 1st class tickets. If you want to fly 1st class you have to pay for the upgrade yourself.
Then afterwards get bullied by JBL because you're not a main eventer and don't deserve to fly in 1st class.

It really doesn't seem to be worth it - Tyler Reks apparently ended up making $100,000 a year by the time he left, and, at least according to him, was barely able to scrape by.

Almost makes me not wanna support the product anymore after hearing this I view WWE no differently than any other company in this regards. Pretty commonplace in corporate America to have to worker bees barely scraping even while the top dogs get most of the $$$$$.

But, at least in other companies if they want you to travel someplace they'll pay for plane ticket, rental, gas, and hotel.

I actually spoke to a Diva about this earlier this week (met through work) and I asked this exact question. Unless you're a top name (i.e. Cena), WWE does NOT pay for any flight, rental car, or hotel accommodation (except for overseas trips, obviously). The wrestlers are required to find their own ways of getting to the shows and are expected to write off the expenses at the end of the year.

Yet another reason why this "independent contractor" idea is bullshit.

I worked for a company that required me to travel and they didn't pay for anything. I got really used to roach motels.

It's not just wrestlers, theirs writers, production staff, caterers, seamstress, etc. Plus they are touring non stop and have their own production equipment. Like they probably spend more then most sport franchises where the league supplies all the TV production guys and they don't travel a whole year and have a home base. Wrestling has always been high risk high reward business. You start off low but you can make a shit ton amount of money in a short period of time to retire on and build a brand name within yourself. It isn't easy but ones who succeed are rewarded.

On Jericho's podcast, Ziggler said he and the resident doctor travel together, and Miz used to travel with them too.
