So Sting and Rey Mysterio have both wrestled wearing Mechanix gloves before, which if you're not familiar, are, well, mechanics' gloves that you can get at Walmart or any auto parts store. Just for visual awareness: It's always kind of struck me as kind of an odd choice of handwear. I know most wrestlers don't tend to prefer full gloves or even gloves in general versus tape, but surely there's some sort of advantage they might have. I've used a pair as weightlifting gloves for a while and I can say they work pretty well in that aspect and are good general-purpose gloves, but it just makes you wonder who originally came up with the 'crossover appeal' idea originally. I know we have a few wrestlers on this board. Any reasons why these would be better/worse versus tape, bare hands, or other types of sports gloves?

When Goldust came back a couple years ago during breast cancer awareness month, he was wearing the same style and pattern, but different color, as my under armour football receiver gloves. I guess they're useful for the grip?

Cheaper than custom gloves, easily replaceable in any city they're in. It's probably just a matter of convenience.

Good for grabbing the rope for slingshot, top rope type moves? Also good for making you stand out.
I think Sting wore them just to look cool.

Remember, these are made for people who are working with things covered in oil, grease, and dirt among other things as well as metal tools that slippery are as slippery all get out as well. I got a pair last year to save my knuckles when changing some brakes but now anytime I work with something slick I put them on.

My first memory of them is seeing Goldust wear them back in the day and never being able to tell what the hell they said on them.

I remember seeing Sting wearing them in his WCW days, and wondering what on earth was written on them. Took ages to find out, thought it was something Crow-related as it was during around '97 onwards.

The gloves quality has gone down dramatically since they changed materials and switched to a worse company in China. Now they fall apart on me in 2 weeks, compared to 6 months doing the same work 10 years ago. They were too good so profits went down. I would be embarrassed to wear them now if I were a wrestler.

I always liked it when HBK wore O'Neal biker boots as part of his ring attire. They looked awesome.
