There's a difference between saying that Bryan would be more marketable if he simply trimmed his beard and ditched the samurai hair, and saying that a guy should be pushed simply because of his look, regardless of ability. I think Bryan's look is currently of the times. Dude looks like a plaid wearing, environment loving, vegan eating, Toyota Prius driving hipster from the Pacific West or really like any Hipster except he has longer hair rather then the Macklemore undercut. So in other words he's just being himself and the audience knows he's being himself and it's easier to connect with someone who is being themselves. Jericho being forced to have a haircut in the 90's wouldn't help his career if he didn't want to or embrace the haircut. It helped later in his career because I wanted a haircut and change and the audience knew that.

Bryan's look literally doesn't affect him in any way. Literally.

He has said openly, on many occasions, he does not want to be marketable or more of a star. The only reason to do that.... is to get more of a push, exactly the thing people claim on here to not want. Not everyone wants to look like a clean cut gay porn twink.

Deciding how marketable he needs to be is the responsibility of WWE, not individual wrestlers. It's a business, after all. And the choice is not between looking like a dwarf from a Tolkien novel, and a clean cut gay porn twink. There can be a middle ground.

Bryan's look literally doesn't affect him in any way. Literally. I think it does. Put that face on anything remotely mainstream and it's likely to inspire laughter more than anything else.

He isn't mainstream and never will be, though. Even Cena isn't and he's the closest we've come since Rock. He got massively over while getting beardier and hairier, so obviously people don't care.

I"m on board with the hair cut and beard trim thing. Not getting rid of it or buzzing it mind you but I think he could go back to the winter 2013 to summer 2013 look and be fine. I want this Bryan to return: Or this Bryan:

Dude has looked great since returning but one match against Kane and he's not ready (brother)? How about looking at the tub of fetid dog shit WWE made him carry, that no one has been able to get anything out of in years instead of blaming Bryan? Outside of working with Kane, Bryan has been great since returning.

The fact they've botched mainstream appeal with other guys doesn't mean they should give up on Daniel Bryan. He didn't get over due to his hair. But it may very well impede further progress.

Do a hair vs hair match with Heel Roman Reigns. Bald Bryan would be epic and the crowd would hate Reigns even more he'd probably need a real sheild to protect him during his entrance.

The long haired look suits Reigns. In fact, I think he needs to grow a full beard. The goatee look makes him look like a villain from The Three Musketeers.

The fact 30% of this thread has mentioned his hair and beard again makes me laugh anytime I see people whinging about WWE picking people on the "look". Jesus wept.... because he looks the same as Bryan. You're all sinners. I don't understand it, either. Some people should be watching America's Next Top Model, instead of a professional wrestling show. Part of being a man is that you don't care about your look, or comment on other people's hairstyles. If you do, it's time to give up your man card and buy a purse. All people are saying is that he needs to shave and stop looking like a prospector. Personally, I think he looks fine, but I can see why people are put off by it. Also, "man card"? What does caring about how you look have to do with being a man? I guess because I don't wanna look like someone who doesn't care about personal hygiene that makes me a fairy.

I love how this thread went from talking about DB having some ring rust to defining what makes a man a "real man" in only 2 pages. Never change FAN....never change.... Oh by the way...this is what makes a man (language warning) youtu.be/851BqHMCaeM

I want this Bryan to return: Or this Bryan: Yeah. THIS guy looks like a f***ing star. There's nothing wrong with Bryan having long hair and a beard in and of itself. But beard or no beard, stop f***ing drawing attention to it and stop pushing the idea that he's over solely because he has long hair and a beard. Beard or no beard, he's over because he's an awesome wrestler with a shit ton of charisma and deserves to be treated like it. I was hoping that Bryan would've cut his hair and beard when he made his return, not out of some desire for him to "conform", but to help establish that he's no longer the "B+ troll", but a "made man" now.

Yeah, it's DBry's fault that Kane is a 47 year old that is so beyond stale in and out of the ring that he makes RVD seem like the freshest character in wrestling history. RVD's character is no more or less dated than Bryan's. Bryan "hulks up", I love it, it's very 80s (in a good way), RVD is associated with the 90s... they're both timeless and some of the best ever in my book. RVD is a cocky laidback babyface, what more do you want.
