If ratings continue to rise next week, then maybe something is there with Reigns.
Until then? Hehehe, no

What we call this is correlation, but not causation. There's a correlation between the rise of ice cream and murder rate, but you better believe ice cream doesn't cause murders. I don't even know what "the rise of ice cream" is, but there's a lot more correlation between what his happening in WWE (i.e. Roman's push) and WWE drawing ratings and selling subs than there is between ice cream and murder. Nothing you posted means there is no causation. Pardon me, rise in ice cream consumption. It should have been obvious, but you're right I sometimes need to be more clear. It was an example of the difference between correlation and causation. You're right there's nothing I posted that means there is no causation. However, the burden of proof isn't on me. You listed a lot of facts and linked it Roman Reigns. My argument is that are other factors that can be linked to the factors you listed. Let's go down your list: He wins the Rumble and ... * Network tops 1 million subs I think that's more due to the rollout of the WWE Network in other countries than Roman. * Raw and Smackdown do their best ratings in forever Raw saw coming off the rumble, I believe there was no ball game, and the snow may have been in Raw's favor. * WWE stock jumps 20 percent If you think Wall Street care who is on top besides Vince McMahon you have another thing coming. * Massive mainstream publicity from Forbes to Rolling Stone, etc. That is more due to the controversy surrounding the reaction to last night's rumble. Let's be honest with yourselves. If it went down exactly the same way and Big Show or Kane were the rumble winners I think you'd still have those write ups.

There are dozens of things that go into success and failure in wrestling. That was also true with Steve Austin's rise.

Nope, but there is a reasonable expectation for someone to defend their position. You made the case that the WWE's rise was due to Roman Reigns and I was asking for some evidence of that. Not the fact it's wrestlemania season or anything else. I tried to make a point these could be unrelated without further proof. You don't seem to be willing to due that and in keeping with the moderators advice here I will be moving on from this thread.

Just retcon book it to where Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan trade names. This makes Roman.. erm.. Bryan look super strong plus the fans have been begging for him to main event for two years while WWE tried to push that scruffy vegan Reigns down all our throats.

I wish this place didn't seem like an "IWC" haven, but so many of these posters, on the other side of most issues, come off like total contrarions that rely on terrible straw mans and other flawed arguments to get people's goad. saintpat, just admit you don't like DB and stop trying to stir shit, with everyone. On the same note, everybody that's making a Reigns thread every 30 seconds needs to cut it out, too. Let's not be like the rest of the net, and have fun!!!

There's a lot of anger in this thread. Am I one of five people that read the first post as tongue in cheek?

There's a lot of anger in this thread. Am I one of five people that read the first post as tongue in cheek? It is to a certain degree. But there are several outright contrarians on the board for whom blind defence of WWE accounts for 99% of their posts, which understandably pisses a lot of people off.
