Made my first batch based on what I thought would be all that I needed to use, only to find out online that it's apparently a little more complicated than that.

You need the tahini and salt for sure. I think lemon juice too, it's been a while since I made some hummus.

Salt and tahini, yes. Lemon juice, like most any food, would only make it better. Definitely would put cumin and garlic in it, maybe some hot pepper.

Hummus without tahini is a monstrosity It depends what else you put into it. If you put a strong item in such as sriracha, tahini isn't as necessary.
