On the monthly free trial, just watched the first episode. It was cool, but 20 hours is a huge commitment. Is the whole series essential viewing, or would you say some episodes are better than others?

Just pick and choose what seems like topics you want to watch. They are pretty redundant in repeating necessary info in the episode even if its been beaten to death in previous episode.

Yeah, they cover the same stuff over and over. I'd recommend the Russo episode, the Bischoff/Flair episode, the cruiserweight episode, the first episode, and then whatever else interests you. I also liked the ECW one and the one on the nWo, but by the end of this series, you'll be tired of hearing about the nWo lol.

EDIT: Thanks, btw.

If you've seen Jericho's DVD, you're missing nothing. In fact, I think you can watch that documentary on the network. If so, just watch that, and avoid having to hear the standard "Vince created RAW/WCW launched Nitro/formation of the nWo/Attitude era" stuff that gets mentioned EVERY TIME!

Got it.
So, the new stuff I haven't seen/heard before I can find in:
Russo Cruiserweights and Bischoff/Flair
episodes?
Any others have tidbits or new/insightful things worth watching? How's the life after wartime final episode?

I had never seen Bischoff's 1990 audition for the WWF before, so that got a laugh out of me. It's on one of the last episodes, I think third from last.

The first two and last four are pretty great if I remember right (the rise, the nWo, mistakes on the battlefield, RUsso, the end, post-war). Russo and the end may be the same episode, I forget off the top of my head. Everything in between is really optional based on who you give a shit about. I didn't even bother with the divas episode. And there is a hilarious shift towards being more and less biased all at once - sometimes they are more even handed, at other times the burying of WCW is just preposterous.
Also if you've seen the original 2003 MNW DVD, you'll notice that Vince's 2009 interview is almost word for word the exact same interview.

I agree you can watch these out of order and it wouldn't make much difference. I would at least watch the first one first and the last two last if you were planning on watching the whole series.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
You know, for newer/younger fans, this series does a great job of covering everything.
I'd imagine it's also a must-see for fans of slow panning to framed pictures.

My girlfriend cracks up like a loon with every slow pan, because of how it's this desolate landscape with barbed wire and fences and then it's just a photo of Hulk Hogan or some shit.

Lots of recycling from commercial release footage. Just read Death of WCW instead, which may not be 100% accurate but is far more fair and entertaining.

It'd probably be pretty easy to replicate the style. I'd love to do a parody episode about watching The Monday Night Wars.

Did you know that the WWF's product in 1995 was stale and uncontemporary, with Isaac Yankem and Face Doink as proof? How about that?

The nWo was rebellious too don't forget that. But did they invade the competition's live show in a tank? Because DX didn't, either

Did you know that the WWF's product in 1995 was stale and uncontemporary, with Isaac Yankem and Face Doink as proof? How about that? But in January of 1993, Vince McMahon revolutionized Monday nights with the debut of Monday Night Raw. You sure we're talking about the same show?

Also, after watching the first two, the bret hart, and the last three, I went back and watched the cruiserweights episode. Really enjoyable, but boy does Russo come off like a racist jerk. I can't even say it was editing either as his talking heads show him saying things that no possible context would make appropriate, unless they specifically cut out him prefacing it with "Only a racist idiot would say the folloiwng things:..."
