Samoa Joe had Okada (then known as Okata because again TNA) video tape Pope inquiring about buying pitbulls and either heavily implied or flat out said they were for fighting. And they had him wearing a cheap mask and acting as Joe's Chauffeur I think you could say that Okada right now is a bigger star than Joe was. If it wasn't for that angle, we wouldn't have the Okada we have today. He easternized the Pope's gimmick and was determined not let that shit run he had in TNA define his career.

Dude could've been huge.
Hell, I'd love for him not to have had his family woes (both for his family's sake and selfish entertainment reasons), as Marcus Cor Von coulda been huge too.

With all due respect the people saying "Jarrett killed him" either haven't seen the match they had at Final Resolution 2005 or don't remember it correctly. Monty Brown kicked out of Jarrett's finisher twice, a guitar shot (Which has put down almost everyone Jarrett's wrestled ever), A chair shot to the face and only lost after Jarrett hit him with another guitar and hit three strokes (That's right, THREE) to put him down. Oh and just to point this out but Brown had wrestled a 13 minute match earlier in the night to earn the title shot where he beat both Diamond Dallas Page and Kevin Nash so Jarrett had to do all that to beat him when he wasn't even 100%. How can you possibly protect a guy anymore than Jarrett did? I understand a lot of people feel Brown should have gone over but he wasn't ready at that point and only had been in TNA for 10 months. It's an incredible risk to put the belt on a guy who is basically a rookie when you have PPV units to sell and are trying to build a company. Protected losses are such a crutch though. Over in WWE land, how many protected losses has Dolph Ziggler taken? Or "he's got him! but noooo interference!" But, when push comes to shove, when there is a clean/non-DQ finish, he's the one getting his shoulders pinned to the mat. Protected losses don't really matter if the person being protected doesn't ultimately accomplish their goal. Well that I agree with. I just don't like how people blame Jeff Jarrett and Final Resolution 2005 for "burying" Monty Brown. Brown was buried by TNA's love of the quick heel turn for no reason not because of Jeff Jarrett.

Because TNA mostly. If I remember my timelines correctly he got popular in the middle of Jeff Jarett is the greatest and strongest wrestler of all times and will kick out of several finishers in a row and then win with a guitar shot era, specifically. Which really didn't do anything for anyone. I do know that he turned heel and sided with Jarrett like right at the peak of his overness in TNA... because it's TNA and of course they did Change the first and last "TNA" to "Jarrett" and it sums up how I view it. Or was he not still in charge of everything still? He was sure booked like it. Constantly.

TNA existed for little purpose other than to push Jarrett at the time. Nothing against Double J, but he very much had an over inflated opinion of himself in late WCW and early TNA. It took so e harsh life experiences to change his perspective (and keep him off tv long enough) in order for younger, home grown state to get their chance to shine.

Funny yet sad thing about Jarrett, to me: the dude's last run as TNA champ was pretty great, because he completely played up being an opportunistic, conniving, "desperately needs help to win" type of heel champion, almost like a main event Honky Tonk Man.
But because of all the bad will he had built up with the crowd due to his run from 2002-2005 or so, people just weren't into it. Would've been totally worth it if Joe had been the one to end Jarrett's last title reign, but, well, TNA.

Would've been totally worth it if Joe had been the one to end Jarrett's last title reign, but, well, TNA. Had to be Sting. Joe had been on TV for about a year only when he fought Jarrett on PPV and wasn't really as big of a star as he'd go onto become. Sting was a huge star, people wanted to see him take the belt from Jarrett and it was the right move.

Jeff didn't want to give up the top heel slot
Also the biggest dropped ball in TNA was the guy who has FANS MAKING T-SHIRTS TO SUPPORT HIM in Lance Hoyt. THEY WENT OUT AND SPENT MONEY ON MAKING T-SHIRTS AND THEY NEVER SOLD A SINGLE SHIRT FOR HIM OR GIVE HIM ANYTHING OF ANY VALUE! HE COULD DO A COAST TO COAST!

As awesome as he was, he unfortunately got over during Triple J's dominance, where even if he did win the title, he would've lost it back to Jarrett in short order. Sadly, Jarrett really believed that if he didn't hold the title or was away from it for that long, that the company would die & the company believed him, which unfortunately meant that Monty & some others couldn't go that extra step they needed to to become top guys.

Give him a bad French-sounding name and an R&B/Soul theme song?

Give him a bad French-sounding name and an R&B/Soul theme song? Honestly I think, some missteps with the New Breed as a whole aside, WWE was using him well. Just his personal life got in the way.

I agree about Jarret protecting him in losing but they failed in the follow up.
I liked him. It's a shame he felt he needed to leave but I understand. He had to try WWE and unfortunately he had family matters to attend to.
The points made about TNA's repeated ball dropping: Tomko- I couldnt believe it but Tomko was over. Way over. TNA did something WWE never could
Pope-f*** The guy who dropped that ball. Unreal man a gift and they just let it go.
