With both of them leaving afterwards, and not knowing that Brock would eventually return, why was Goldberg booked to win?
Obviously Austin stunning both is the lasting impression of this mess, but the WCW creation going over has always struck me as odd.

There was a very slight possibility that they could eventually bring Goldberg back, whereas Lesnar was confirmed to be doing something else in the meantime.

Because Lesnar didn't care if he lost, he was getting paid.

Because Lesnar pissed them off by dropping the football bomb on them while Goldberg was leaving the right way.

There was still a bit of hope for Goldberg to come back, which obviously never did. And Lesnar has always been a professional guy. Pay him and he'll do what he's asked to do.

Goldberg's contract was up, Lesnar flat out quit

Because Lesnar didn't care if he lost, he was getting paid. Lesnar has seemingly never cared if he lost, in the best possible way.

Wish there was footage of this confrontation in the crowd between a Hogan cosplayer (who actually used to post here regularly until a couple of years ago) and a Savage cosplayer that happened during the match and got the attention of the crowd. Sounds awesome.

Sounds awesome. I was in the stands Not much really happened. From what I remember They just kinda did the signature poses... and that was about it.

Goldberg being more likely to comeback is the correct answer. I think Goldberg/WWE were having contract discussions even a few months after the event.

Quite ironic but at the tailend of that whole fiasco, Gillberg was within the E's good graces and Bork couldn't be farther. Never forget the one face in that match, The Ref.

Funny thing is that once they got going, the match was kinda good. Problem is they were never gonna win over that crowd

As hilarious as the utter bile from the crowd was, and it was, that woulda been a fun match to see had both guys given a damn.
