Meltzer sure likes that Roman vs Bryan match.

Meltzer seems to have a weird hard on for Roman Reigns. He gave the Orton SS match **** as well, didn't he? And that match to me was about 10 minutes of utter boredom following by a fairly decent last 5 minutes. It was a total **1/2 type match. The match at Fast Lane was a little better, but I think Scott Keith had it at ***1/4, which sounds much more feasible. Saying Reigns/Bryan is ****1/2 is saying it's one of the best matches of all time, which is laughable.

Maybe he actually was giving it 1/2 a star, but he swore first and the stars are it being filtered.

Yes, funny how two different situations result in different opinions from one man and people having opinions on each opinion. I mean like people saying he must be trying to overrate Reigns when he clearly agreed with those who aren't in favor of the big push and would have no reason to do that The Reigns hate here is so personal and irrational that people now see Meltzer's star ratings as part of some conspiracy to support him. Despite, you know, everything Meltzer says about Bryan and Reigns, which apparently isn't part of the conspiracy, just the star ratings are.

It's an especially high rating considering Dave very vocally thinks this Reigns over Bryan booking is depressingly awful. Still, it was a good match. I think he was a bit harsh on Goldust/Stardust. The crowd wasn't into it, which hurts, but it wasn't 1 and 1/2 stars bad. 2 and a half at least. It was a rush build, and the match didn't work for me at all, and had a finish that looked like a cockup (I thought having Stardust attacking Goldust before the bell as a non-match would have worked better than the match we had).

Star ratings don't matter. Does Dave Meltzer really matter? Hugely. McMahon reads the Observer. Mick Foley says without Meltzer's reporting on his work, he'd not have been picked up by WCW. It's been a while since he's broken anything earth shattering (but it's been a while since something earth shattering happened), and there's a massive difference between the Observer and the many internet sites that rip off the Observer's news.

Meltzer agrees the show was good but the crowd was shite then.

Agreed, though I'd say his bread and butter is analysis of business of pro wrestling and mma, (and to a lesser extent, show reviews and booking analysis) and not scoops. He has sources in wrestling, MMA, and TV and cable companies, but he often holds back on reporting specific things that those entities don't want out yet in order to maintain those relationships.

Does every thread have online related to him have to discuss Meltzer and whether he matters or if he is "just a fan" or not or someone steaming mad as people treat him/Wrestling Observer as the gospel. Just such a Wrestling online cliche.
The star ratings aren't something he puts THAT amount of thought into unless it is a *****. Even he says they are just a reference point.

I had it at.about ***1/4. But it's all down to taste. For example, this year, other than Bryan/Reigns I think Meltzer has hugely overrated Ishii/Honma which I had at about ***1/2 and he gave it a full *****. But that's the thing he can rate it what he wants, star ratings are just a way of quantifying how much you enjoyed a match. It's why I don't get why star ratings piss people off so much. I mean seriously why do people care if other people like to rate their enjoyment of a match?

The main event really was a fantastic match, even if the ending was predictable. The predictability maybe accounts for it not being a 5 star match though.
