Anyone ever play this wrestling game on Dreamcast? I got bored of FPR and this looks pretty cool. How is this game and is there a steep learning curve?

No, but I've always wanted to. Back then, I was under the delusion that might actually come out here for whatever reason. I was wrong. Japanese DC kids got this and Fire Pro and we got Attitude and Hardcore Revolution with cleaner graphics. . Oh, and that stupid Royal Rumble game where every match features seventeen insane run-ins for no reason. I've seen gameplay footage. It looks like an old school stiff, rock-paper-scissors situation.

Damn thats heartbreaking. Luckily you can rekindle the dream by getting a DC for like $20-30 and a blank cd : ') Royal Rumble was hard for no damn reason but it was the mix of coked out Sega wackiness and WWF that we never knew we wanted lol

Am I right in thinking Royal Rumble was the game that randomly teleported you backstage during the match?

The imports I've played are Super Fire Pro Wrestling X (translated SNES emulation), Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 (N65, Japanese No Mercy), Fire Pro Wrestling D (Dreamcast, made redundant by Fire Pro Returns) and King of Colosseum 2 for the PS2.
All fantastic.

I paid about $90 for a legit copy of Giant Gram back in the day and played the hell out of it.
It is extremely fun if you're a fan of the old AJPW guard (Misawa, Kobashi, Kawada, etc) but there is a huge learning curve.... I used to have a massive binder printed for all the moves. You pull off moves in Street Fighter-type combinations and it very arcade-like.... ie forward, back+punch for a lariat. But everyone's moveset was very unqique
But the coolest part was the combo moves. To use Misawa as an example: toward, down+B was the tiger driver. BUT if you hit DOWN+B at the right time in the animation.... Tiger driver '91! or simpler, you can start a basic suplex but chain it mid-animation into a brainbuster/gordbuster/delay suplex with the right combo
For the CAW, you "learn" your moves by fighting guys and getting hit with their moves in matches.... like earn the Ace Crusher by taking 3 AC's from Johnny Ace. So building a guy was slow and tedious and very hard even with a translation guide. IIRC, you had 5-6 templates you choose from (that you can't edit) for your CAW appearance so don't expect a proper CAW mode to make anybody

Man that take s me back. My favorite part was the effect when you broke an opponent's limb.
Fire Pro D was the best wrestling game on that system

It does sound interesting, but also sadly a little too much like the Acclaim wrestling games for my liking. I just don't think fighting game style inputs work well with wrestling games.

if you're not fluid at chaining into your combo moves it can make matches tedious and frustrating sometimes. I usually stuck to using Kobashi, because for me the Emerald Frosion was impossible to do...... you had to combo it out of a regular bodyslam and timing is so fast I usually windup with matches filled with 10 bodyslams in row
the game had the best Burning Hammer in any game though IMO, 3:22 in:
