As someone who knows nothing of UFC and MMA, I've a question: how good are the women Rousey fights? Are they accomplished fighters that are just way behind a top dog (like golfers against Tiger Woods in his prime, for example) or are they just whatever tomato cans are available?

So, um, Ronda's pretty much gonna leave undefeated in about a year to solely do movies and things. I don't see any reason she sticks around. Such a great run she's on. It'll be interesting to see when she does leave, what Dana and co. do with women's fighting, if they stay the course or change it up. Cuz clearly, now more than ever, it's Ronda and everyone else. If she leaves, they'll phase it out. Without her, there's not point because no one is on a significant level to be labeled as a legitimate champion. The division is as weak as Rousey is strong. At this point we're making kids fight each other and then shoving the one who takes the least damage into a fight with an adult.

That and "We decided, no more women fighters" is basically begging people to lambast them. There is no positive spin Dana could really put on it.

They are the best the sport has to offer with how young women's MMA is at this point. It has not been around nearly as long as the UFC and MMA as a whole.

Ronda is the Royce Gracie of WMMA. No one in the first couple UFCs could really figure out Gracie and no woman has been able to figure out Rousey. I think Holm has the skill set to do it, however I was a bit underwhelmed by what I saw from her. She needs 2-3 fights (wins) I think before you could put her in there with Rousey. I also think we have to see Rousey/Cyborg. I think Cyborg could do it too if she could keep the fight standing. However, would Cyborg have the same power at 140 (I'm assuming it would have to be a catchweight fight)?

Who would have thought the next Mike Tyson would have come out of the UFC's women's division. Ronda Rousey is truly great. Though she's going to be a tougher sell on PPV. I think they're going to have to pair her off against with another title fight, like what was supposed to happen on this card. It's easy to be Tyson when you're fighting amateur quality jobbers. Still impressive, but WMMA has a long ways to go before its got half the skill the guys have. I think the Tyson comparison is being made (at least from my personal perspective) based on the wide gulf between her and the rest of the division. There's no question the HW depth in boxing in the late 80s was better than the women's BW depth in MMA today. It's the point that the distance between Tyson and Rousey with the divisions that they compete(d) in have literally nothing to offer to make it interesting. Watching a Ronda fight now is basically trying to see how quickly she makes mince meat out of her opponent.

I feel horrible for Cat Zingano. Her career as a credible fighter in big money matches is officially over. It's a crying shame. I hope she wins her next match, however.
Is there even a point to have a women's match that doesn't feature Rousey?

As a Cat Zingano fan, it's a shame that now she's considered a complete joke now. Despite thrashing Tate.
I guess that's what a very bad gameplan can do. She's pretty much known for terrible first rounds. Rousey's just the first to truly take advantage of that.

Is there even a point to have a women's match that doesn't feature Rousey? Well, Miesha Tate was the only person to take Ronda passed the first round, so it looks like she's the next challenger. I think it is a bit of a spectacle as well. I wonder if the fans will ever do the deal that was done with Baron Corbin where they just count to see how long it will take to beat someone. But, going back to wrestling, that's how you make a star. Back in the day, Magnum TA beat everyone int 15 seconds with the belly to belly, and eventually, Magnum became a big star. especially when he was tested. Someone can beat Ronda. Anderson Silva went for years as the champion, but he was finally beat.

Is there even a point to have a women's match that doesn't feature Rousey? The Women's Strawweights are quite good. And I think that after Rousey leaves the 135 division, you'll definitely see it continue. She's way too far ahead of her division at the moment unless someone shows up who can come close to her level. Julianna Pena is coming back from her wrecked ACL soon so there's a name not yet thought of.

Rousey's not gonna be around as long as Silva though. Anderson fought for YEARS before being defeated; I see Ronda sticking around another year or so tops. Plus as great as Anderson was/is, the gulf between him and his opponents wasn't nearly as wide as Ronda and hers.

I can see Ronda sticking around until the Cyborg fight, because there will always be people asking her about it if she leaves before it actually happens and I'm sure she doesn't want to be questioned about it at every waking moment.
Still thinks she wins in short order.

They need to find a woman with no arms to fight Ronda. She'll still lose, but at least it won't be by armbar.

How about, they have a first in UFC: A 2-on-1 handicap match?
I've seen tag team MMA before, why not just put Rousey against two people? might be the only legitimate chance anyone has against her, haha.
