I think reality TV killed the video star. MTV's introduction of The Real World opened the floodgates, and now every channel must have a reality show, whether or not such a show is appropriate for that channel or not. Example: TV Land is supposed to be all about classic shows, but they've moved away from that.
As for radio, it's nothing but an endless stream of commercials, the same five songs played over and over, and a total of maybe eight stations on the dial. Thank God for XM & Sirius!

I can't remember the last time I seen a music video on MTV (even though I don't really watch MTV except for Hogan Knows Best on Sundays), I think at least 1996/1997 was the last time I seen a music video on there.
The first music videos were in the 1920s.

The internet is killing the music industry which is half-true since they had to lower Gold record status from a million copies to 100,000 which is just unbelievable and just goes to show how many people are downloading.
There's no way people would get a million copies sold now unless they're very lucky.

You don't think that has anything to do with the total lack of talent in the music industry, or the fickle-ness of fans these days?

Yet, I still see the background dancers for some rapper who had one hit single, showing off their gigantic house and 50 cars on "Cribs". They're hardly hurting.

Not really, music fans have always been pretty fickle but it's definetly to do with downloading and torrent sites. Nearly every home has internet access and I've heard people talk out-right in public about how they download and have Limewire or Kazaa or whatever.

Touring and merchandise is where they make their money. And rappers don't just rap, they're actors, producers, record label owners, have their own perfumes, clothes etc. "know what I'm sayin'?"

There's no way people would get a million copies sold now unless they're very lucky. They should start touting off numbers of people downloading their music. Like an artist could go gold with a million downloads. True, they won't make a damn cent off of it, but they could still use those figures to express what great talent they have. And if 'Video Killed the Radio Star', then 'Money for Nothing' killed 'Video Killed the Radio Star'. That video was awesome.
