It seems like the overall line of thinking for ROH to go "national" is that they'd have to completely revamp their entire M.O. and try and do all of the things people faulted TNA for doing.

The ROH to SPIKE stuff is a lot more real and bigger than what Meltzer is reporting. However ROH is probably going to under go a major talent exodus fairly soon. Who is going to leave and why? Where are they going?

The question is how much would Sinclair have to invest for the show to not seem so damn cheap and be more marketable?

The question is how much would Sinclair have to invest for the show to not seem so damn cheap and be more marketable? i think production value-wise they are fine. BUT, I think Sinclair could stand to invest just enough money to allow ROH the ability to run a TV taping weekly (or at least bi-weekly). Imo, this is something every wrestling promotion should strive for no matter how big or small, OR how cheap they look. They have the talent and the production. What would make them more marketable would be actually marketing. How often does Sinclair run RoH ads on their affiliates?

Anyways, when it comes to these stories of Samoa Joe and names from ROH going to WWE I'll believe when it actually happens. First, you never know what can go down until somebody actually starts work for WWE. Not to mention people have other places to go to. So I think people are counting their chickens before they hatch in saying Joe and these ROH names are WWE bound.

Great roster, terrible TV production.
TNA has a far worse roster, and 50x the TV production, and that is why TNA is on TV, and ROH is on at midnight in select markets.

As we've seen with TNA, when something is taped doesn't seem to make much difference in ratings. To me weekly tv tapings are more of a side effect of being able to draw big crowds at least once a week which nobody besides WWE can do in the United States. You can say it doesn't matter how cheap something looks, but presentation is very important. If ROH looks low rent in terms of video production, most people will consider ROH to be low rent. Sure the hardcore fans won't mind too much, but ROH can only grow to much with just a hardcore audience. ROH doesn't need to look like WWE, but there's a lot of wiggle room between WWE and where ROH is now.

Due to syndication on those random local networks, i am pretty sure every major market in the United States has access to ROH one way or another. The time slots may be all over the place, but its out there. Not even close. ROH television is mostly in small/mid-sized markets. They're not in places like New York City, LA, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, etc.... They're not even in Cleveland. I mean come on.

I personally am fine with ROH being a niche product because I love it anyways, I even like the low rent production because I like a little grit in my wrestling presentation but I know that ROH is not a brand that I can show my casual fan friends and expect them to jump on board in spite of its presentation flaws, and there are some issues that are just tough to deal with even for me, sound issues especially. For me I don't mind taped shows a single bit. The only thing I don't like about their current set up is their inability to really hone in on momentum following PPVs because any time they have a hot PPV it's like a 2 week wait before the next new show, which by then it's hard to come in with the same excitement that the prior show built up.

I was a huge ROH fan 05 until 08. I was at their first iPPV. I've been to about 5 shows. The tv is shown in Albany NY where I live. The show is boring, the matches are boring, the production is bush league, and there is no way that they could be a national promotion with what they are producing now days. I get this from my girlfriend and random friends who doze off watching it.
I'm not sure if I changed or what it is, but other than the Briscoes, the Bucks or the old school Daniels Joe Styles stuff, most everything else is unwatchable.

As stated, ROH is already semi-national.
Now, if the question is, can they ever go mainstream? No.

ROH burned me with their horrible streaming PPVs. I left and never went back after the second time I missed a live show of theirs because of their crappy production equipment.

The Spike TV I did read that they might do monthly specials similar to Glory Kickboxing and Premier boxing. The idea is on Friday once a month, you have either wrestling, mma, boxing and kickboxing. Wrestling though does kinda better with a regular slot so I think putting the wrestling timeslot once a week would be good. I think with that, ROH could add to Spike TV's overall product. Especially since ROH is a more serious product.

They would have to be a lot less misogynistic. ROH always has great wrestling with personalities people can get behind but as long as woman are treated/represented with the level of disrespect currently shown, it won't. Plus, what's up with all the homophobic insults? It also doesn't help that their current champion is a bigot.
