I enjoyed Hulk's promos the most, but I think Austin was the best all-round.

1) Austin- never one for real long promos but never needed to. arrive- stunner-leave 2) Rock- just for the fact it'd take him ten minutes of talking just to lead up to one catchphrase and you knew it was coming but still wanted to find out how he was going to get to it. 3) Hogan- preferred hollywood to real american as far as promos went. 4) Cena- the only one of the four i find myself unable to sit through an entire promo for.

It's funny. If you gave all four of these men a few hours to think up a promo with absolutely zero interference from Vince and creative (and let's put Hogan in his prime just for the sake of fairness), I have no doubt that both Austin and Cena would come up with the best ones. However if it's about simply having a crowd, ANY crowd, in the palm of your hands? Hogan and Rock are the best. So my answer is...I really don't f***ing know. That's a good answer. And I agree!

Rock has overtaken Cena and Hogan.

Hogan specialised in promos while being interviewed by Mean Gene. No one was better at that. Macho Man and Ric Flair would be nearing that level.
Austin and Rock specialised in back and forth banter, which was largely absent during the Hogan era, where the emphasis was mainly on in-ring action.
Cena was fine when doing his raps. Since then he's been bland and unfunny. To a large degree that's based on the material he's given, but since he has the stroke to change it, and clearly doesn't, I blame him.

Cena should not be last.
Cena is fantastic at talking, to the point where if it's a bad promo I can guarantee it's not something he came up with.

I've seen each of these from the beginning of there careers on. And each is among the greats, on the stick. I voted Austin and here's why. Hogan is the one I'm most familiar with because I was in my 20s and going to house shows Monthly, at the Meadowlands. Sometimes we'd hit The Garden, or the Spectrum, or a B Card in a high school or college gym. I even saw a 3 Superstars TV Taping with the live Piper's Pit build up to Wrestlemania3. Hogan promo's got old. I'm as much a fan of of promos and skits etc as I am the in-ring stuff. Maybe more. My Aspergian furor is storytelling. So I watch wrestling from a word nerd's perspective. I realized ir was basically the same shtick, over and over. And his acting was so bad, it was must see comical. He gained my interest again with the NWO, but that wore out too. And forget his TNA run. That made Rock's last run look like Olivia.
Which brings us to The Rock. And Cena. They're pretty much tied in my eyes. When they're on they're great, when they're not, they're not. More often than not, they entertain me. Which made their feud kind of disappointing.
What swang the vote in Austin's favor is that even in my least favorite angle, The Alliance, I loved his promo's. Speaking of Bill Demott, one of my favorite's is him ripping part Hugh Morris. That's all I remember about Bill Demott's career.

Austin is a top 5 mic worker of all time, so he gets my vote. But, as I said in the Raw thread last night, Paul Heyman is the great mic worker in the history of the business. Period. As for that top 5 I mentioned? For shits and giggles here you go.... 1.Heyman 2.HBK 3. Flair 4. Austin 5. CM Punk Would you consider that list with Paul Heyman and Bobby Heenan. They;re two of a kind.

The Rock is the best when it comes to highest peak, but if we are talking overall body of work I am going:
1.Stone Cold 2.Hogan 3. Rock 4. Cena
2 and 3 was pretty hard. Not even hating, but Cena has to be a lock at 4 on any list. I think Cena is a damn good promo, but if this was an open list, he is probably top 15 while the other 3 are probably in the upper part of most top 10s.

On another note always thought this was outstanding. Austin cut a short promo on Punk for WWE All Stars in 2011 and it was the most fired up he had appeared to be since his in ring career. Shame we never got that match. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1F6PuzP8tBo
