I recently made a thread entitled "Who is the best in the ring of the WWE's biggest stars?" which can be found here: officialfan.proboards.com/thread/517525/best-ring-wwes-biggest-starsStone Cold won that one in a landslide, but I have a feeling this one will be much, much closer. Also feel free to rank them if you like. I am torn on this one..

Hulk Hogan was billed at 6'8" and 303 lbs and he could make you think that he was the underdog and Hulkamania would be powerful enough to vanquish whoever the monster of the month was. I've got to go with the Hulkster. Not to mention that he was a really entertaining promo.

In the 80's his out of his mind, over the top promos were just gold and you could totally see why kids saw him as a superhero.

When he isn't playing around, John Cena.

Rock's fallen behind on these polls. Did his recent run sour him on FAN? I didn't vote for him on either myself.

Have to go with the Hulk on this one.
I miss the days of cocaine-fueled promo-crazy.

All four are pretty damn good. They've also had roughly the same amount of stinker promos.
That said, I think there's a case for Hogan maybe being the greatest mic guy of all time.

I can't believe Austin is winning this one. For me he's a distant fourth of these. Hogan, then Cena, then Rock, then Austin.

All are great talkers, even if the material for some of them was/is suspect at times.
That being said, hearing Austin talk, even on his podcast, never fails to put a huge smile on my face. I can believe that if you had an actual conversation with him outside of the wrestling ring that he'd talk in the same exact manner, it never comes across like he's just pretending to be something he's not. He's the only wrestler that's ever successfully transitioned "cool heel" into beloved babyface for me.

I wouldn't say distant fourth either, but I'd have him fourth. Cena, for me, simply has a lot more substance in his body of work than The Rock does.

On the other side of that though, you could say Rock just said more or less the same thing every week.

Yeah, honestly. For me, Hogan and Cena are magic both with comedy and especially when they're serious (although Cena's "comedy" can be grating). Rock being funny is on a whole other level. Austin is just a bit one-dimensional (Intense Redneck) compared to the other three, who I think are three of the best talkers ever. He's my second all-time favourite and all but yeah. Distant fourth here for me.

Austin is more 'natural' talker in my opinion. Hogan, Rock and Cena are all great at cutting fired up, passionate, catch phrase filled promos but i find Austin much more entertaining even when he is talking in a conversational tone

Distant fourth here for me. I honestly think crazy, paranoid, jealous heel Austin in 2001 was funnier than any of them, but in fairness that was more acting goofy than an actual promo. Kurt and Austin's horror at seeing Vince hug RegalBut yes in terms of mic mastery and comedy, Rock is probably the best I think

But no-one captures a crowd now the way Rock did, and that is as much about the crowds of the time as it is about The Rock. Let's not forget the era The Rock was working in. I'm assessing this on the quality of the mic work more than the crowd interaction. How many of these seem like they'd be great speeches wherever they were given? I'd say Cena has more of that than Rock does. Hogan even has more of that than Rock does, Rock, however, has more of it than Austin does. Austin was more one-dimensional for the majority of his run on top than any of the other three guys. Austin had a run of great promos in ECW, but even they weren't that different to his WWF work. Catchphrases are one thing, but don't make the promo guy.
