They may have picked on him but JR comes across as much of a petty bitch as Vince

Out of fairness to JR, he disputes some of Holly's account and they talk about it in a really great episode of Jim Ross's podcast. I highly recommend it.

I recall watching it when WWE Classics on Demand was still running and they were airing Monday Night Raws from right around that era. I was very confused because it seemed that Bart Gunn was actually getting over by knocking people out and they just did nothing with him after it ended. They brought him in to lose a Hardcore Title match because of Dr. Death in a silly mask and then he got knocked out by Butterbean. They might not have made a star out of Dr. Death, but at least try with the guy who won the damn thing in exciting fashion.

Bob Holly did a good write up of Brawl for All in his book. The things that stuck out for me: -- The WWF paid Williams the winner's prize before it even started, because JR was so convinced he was going to destroy everyone. Dr Death was then in line to work a program with Austin. -- Steve Blackman was fully prepared to unleash his martial arts on the other competitors, asking if it was legal to kick out guys' knees. -- JR was the one who helped talk Bart into an unwinnable fight with Butterbean, out of spite for knocking out "his boy." "Good Ol' JR" is such a petty little b!tch. I have no doubt whatsoever that he'd stoop to this sort of level. As great of an announcer as he could be at times, everything else about him has always come across as phony.

I felt really embarrassed for Marc Mero in there trying to have a boxing match against grapplers. I've always wondered if that was his idea. Considering that I believe he was a Golden Gloves boxer in his youth, it probably was not an outrageous plan on his part.

....didnt some of the commentary feature a coked out Shawn Michaels?? I think so. God I wish I had the screengrab but I distinctly remember Michaels doing commentary around that time, and when the camera panned to him he had a little coke in his beard...and then the camera quickly panned away and was never on him for the rest of the match.

wasn't everything post-Dr. Death knockout all worked anyway? Nah, it was all shoot. Here's the finals if you are interested, with Bart Gunn clearly knocking some brain cells out of Bradshaw. www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9JOEYxwwbkThat's the diviest dive that ever dived. Unless we're supposed to believe that Bart's matches all have this clear, obvious ending, when everyone else's were complete messes... yeah, it's worked.

Always preferred Gorilla.

What JR said to the Godfather must have been hilarious. "Sorry, Papa Shango, you get to go out there and get your ass beat again!"

When they did that Bart Gunn vs Butterbean fight at WM, I remember thinking I should get a snack since they would probably go all three rounds. I got to the kitchen door, looked over my shoulder-and there was Gunn, laid out for the count.

If JR really used Butterbean as revenge for Bart beating Dr Death, then I'm glad WWE humiliated him so many times over the years.

C'mon man, that was a legit KO. The fight should have been stopped after the first knockdown as you can clearly see that Bradshaw has no clue where he is. His eyes are glazed.
