Thanks to John Cena. This is what leads Rusev to accept his challenge. Somehow I feel this is where we're going.

He can drop the US Title and maybe rise up the card. Buuuuuut...Then his credibility will be shot when Cena destroys him in an "I quit my country match" two months down the road and he'll hopelessly falter in the midcard as naive people say "Cena elevated him with that close encounter! No way Rusev ends up like Cesaro, Sandow, Wyatt." But that will happen when it happens. I have ZERO faith Cena will elevate Rusev at all.

No. Axel is a short term investment. Long term, reigns or bryan makes most sense.

No. Axel is a short term investment. Long term, reigns or bryan makes most sense. You can say this now. But when AT&T Stadium is sold out for the main event of Curtis Axel vs The Rock for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, we'll see just how short-term the Ax Man really is.

This would be a neat little callback to how Axel's character was originally presented, picking up big wins under screwy circumstances.
If it actually happens, he needs to change his theme to a modern remix of Real American, done in similar fashion to his current theme.

This sucks, because it does nothing for the U.S. Title and only makes Axel look like a lame duck champion because Rusev "has more important things to do"
If WWE wants to make Axel a champion, they should introduce a new belt that he and other people on his level can realistically win and get rid of the U.S. Title.

Axel should beat Rusev for the U.S. Title, win the ATGMBR, then do his Axelmania poses, then Hogan comes out and drops a leg on him, or at the very least just throws some punches. Then on Raw Axel comes out in a black and white Axel World Order shirt.

Much like Ric Flair gave Miz the Figure 4, a storyline that led to unprecedented success.

If they actually went down that (incredibly stupid) road, I would demand it okay out thusly.
1) Cena costs Rusev the U.S? Title 2) Cena challenges Rusev for WM, yet again. 3) Rusev tells Cena to GFY, and requests his rematch for the U.S. Title at WM, instead. 4) Rusev regains the title, Cena is left off the card entirely, to sad trombone music.

At this point all I can do is laugh at how awful the last few months of WWE programming has been, and hope that -since I already have tickets- things will be better by MITB.

Axel loses all the time and has zero credibility. Sounds like a midcard champion circa 2015 to me.

I remember this working when Shawn Michaels cost The Undertaker his world title at Elimination Chamber to set up their Mania rematch.
Problem is as great as Axelmania is, he's no Chris Jericho and I don't see Cena filling the Shawn Michaels desperate for that rematch (come get your revenge) role.
