WWE loves nostalgia - we know this as it is WrestleMania season and the final two hours+ of the show will be filled with people who, combined, have appeared about 6 times on WWE TV this year.
My question, which I'm sure has been asked previously but whatever, is who will be the nostalgia acts doing this come back garbage when the current guys finally die or retire for real?
You'll likely have Orton and Cena as main candidates but the rest of their generation were either driven out of WWE (Carlito, Masters, Morrison, Shelton, etc) with no desire or need to return or have already done a nostalgia run (Batista and Lesnar but Lesnar is a different case) and just came back to wrestle the same people with one or two new bloods.
I am not sure Carlito's nostalgia run in 7 years will have enough fuel behind it to main event WrestleMania and Cena or Orton coming back to do it won't mean anything when they've literally done it 100 times combined already.
Will there be a time in WWE where nostalgia is an old time thing?

No doubt WWE was stagnant a bit in creating new stars, or pushing people they had for a while in that period. But there were still people like Daniel Bryan gettng over big in ROH etc in the mid-2000s, CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Cesaro, etc. Some just only made it big in WWE relatively recently. But they're still wrestlers from the 2000s who could get a good pop for sure in a future return.
Personally I'd love to see RVD get another run, but other than putting Rollins, Cesaro etc over like he did in 2014, not sure they have something for him.

These are all, of course, assuming the best injury/health wise Bryan Ambrose Rollins Bray Wyatt (sort of taking on an Undertaker role with the spooky/supernatural angle) Ziggler Ryback, possibly Cody Rhodes |
