Yeah, we got the tag match, but looking back, Piper had tremendous heat for being the biggest scumbag and fans wantd to see Hogan beat him up.
Could have this work in '85?

Probably, but everything's more awesome when Mr. T is involved.

It always bugs me they never did a real major main event with it, except for the "War To Settle The Score". And the fact Piper got out on a DQ was fitting, but it was clearly not the "Piper got his comeuppance" moment.
But at the time, getting celebs involved with wrestling events on such a scale was a fairly new endeavor. I totally understand the direction they went, considering the circumstances where if the event failed they probably weren't gonna go back to such a grand-scale wrestling event. Had to push all the chips in on a main event. If they wanted just a pure wrestling match fans would get hyped about with no gimmicks, celebs, or any other hooks, they probably would've pulled the trigger on Hogan/Andre instead of waiting until III.

Honestly, I think the big reason for it was Piper just didn't want to put Hogan over on TV. Could you imagine the first Wrestlemania, this big event that Vince put so much money into, having a f*** finish for a main event?
