I don't know about you but it seems Lego is becomeing popular with everyone again, not sure if it's the movie or the fact the pop culture sets are getting people interested in it despite it firmly being a kids thing first. The scale models of Tie Fighters and the Ecto-1 Ghostbusters set might be a contributing factor. I myself have been partially drawn in by a friend who is super-enthusiastic about it and so have bought a few minifigures. So feel free to talk about Lego here even if it's just posting silly photos.

I recently developed an urge to buy a Lego set just to have something to build and decorate my home. I also recently developed a fondness for lighthouses. Last night, I did some research and discovered Lego once made a lighthouse. Unfortunately, it's no longer produced and it's only available via ebay at ridiculous prices (with missing pieces). I'm now determined to get my hands on it.

Popular again?
I can't recall the last time Legos weren't popular. Maybe the mid to late 90's? Back when they dropped the Pirates theme, the Western theme, as well as the Space series when they didn't know where to go with it, and even then I wouldn't say they weren't unpopular, but the Star Wars license really kicked them into high gear, although by that point I wasn't collecting anymore but I saw the popularity of this theme. It's a good thing they started doing Star Wars because a lot of their other themes were becoming wacky.
I guess the high point for me personally was 1993. Most of the sets between 1988 and 1996 were very beautiful, but 1993 had two really nice themes. The Pirates theme had the best galleon ever with the Skulls Eye Schooner. The Space series had Ice Planet, which had my favorite spaceship in the Deep Freeze Defender. The Castle series wasn't great that year, but the previous year with the Black Knights was awesome.
I'd say Town was by far the weakest series, the most unimaginative. I said that until recently when Lego started producing the modular buildings. One of my biggest peeves growing up was buying a set and it looked like a set piece for a play as opposed to something with real detail. Most of the buildings never had a back or too many details to let it stand out. Thankfully, with these new modulars they go all out and produce some very beautiful (but somewhat expensive) sets. The only modular so far I don't care too much for is the Palace Cinema, namely for being too novel for the series that the modulars are set upon.

Yeah Lego's always been popular.
I'd just like to thank Wal Mart for dropping the price of the Milano down a couple months ago to try to clear it out. I've still got to finish it.

I recently completed the Star Wars Old Republic: Sith Fury ship set to take my mind off my car dying on me and it's sitting on my desk. I also have the Ecto-1 upstairs as well as the Empire State Building from the Architecture set. I have no idea what to do with these now that I have put them together

I used to make Battle Bots out my old lego sets. I think I still have a box full of them somewhere in my closet. Might have to drag it out and build some stuff.

I am mostly a fan of the video games. The Lego Harry Potter games were the first ones I got a platinum trophy on for the PS3

I used to make Lego forts and boats for my action figures back in 2001/2002.

Okay, that's awesome. Hopefully those are actual pieces and not just a bunch of stickers, that would be a pain to do.

I'm very proud of the fact that I own every piece of the original Lego Forestmen sets. Great stuff! The castle sets were so awesome back in the 80's and early 90's...and came out with some absolutely breath taking sets in the 2000's, but then they did the extremely unimaginative Lions vs. Dragons castle sets and killed the line again. I thought Elves was going to be another revival with maybe a return of the forestmen, but as elves, but it ended up being a lame "dolls" style line. I'm not against girls getting Lego sets specifically for them, but I think Lego could have come up with something much more awesome for them than that. Like, do the line in the traditional minifigures style, and the elves/forestmen are lead by a heroic queen against the evil giantess princess and her elemental giants. You could have strong female leads that way, the first "giant" style girl minifigure, and have a rebirth of the forestmen line. I guess I dream too big, LOL.
