This is a f***ing midcard no-feud match and they're kicking out of each other's finishers and Kurt just kicked out of accidentally hitting himself in the face with a chair.
It's such bullshit I swear the crowd actually started booing immediately afterwards.
I think 2002 might be the strangest f***ing year in WWE history.
edit: Thanks WWE Network!

I recently watched Wrestlemania 19 and the Rock/Austin semi-main event saw Austin kick out of a Rock Stunner and two Rock Bottoms. The trouble was in the Angle/Lesnar match which followed, nobody is surprised when they kick out of each others finishers. The term "finisher" appeared to not mean anything during this period.
Yet at the same event, Booker T cant kick out of 1 pedigree despite having 20 seconds to recover before the pinfall actually happens.

It was the 3rd of a Trilogy of WM matches (possibly the only WM Trilogy?) and the story was how it took 3 Rock Bottoms, and 3 matches for Rocky to beat Austin at WrestleMania. It was the 2 biggest stars of their generations, and regardless of whether it is or isn't the main event, it definitely was treated as one.

I liked the match a lot myself, that one and the Cage match on SD the following month were my favorites around that time period.

Wasn't this the Hair vs. Hair match? Nope. Hair match was next month at Judgement Day. Also, in both guys' defense, it wasn't some random ass midcard match to fill up time. It was meant to catapult Edge into being a top level singles guy which it absolutely did even if he lost clean. Great match.

I haven't read it in a long time, but in Edge's autobiography I remember them being really proud of this match and he talked about how they built the entire match around the false finishes.

I remember really liking this match and enjoying the feud.
Smackdown from March - November 2002 was great.

perfect example of a perfect midcard feud (even though Angle should have been THE MAN at that point instead of HHH/Hogan/Rock)

I for sure thought it was main eventing 19. That feud closed out a lot of the Raw's leading towards WM. A lot more attention was placed on it then HHH/Booker. Was very surprised Brock/Angle closed the show. Nothing wrong with that either.

You could tell in 2002 they were working hard to get Edge to the main event, and in turn he was having a hell of a quality year. Had his neck not taken him out in 2003 he'd have likely reached it much sooner.

The stalling, looking at the crowd, and making it the biggest Rock Bottom yet. I remember the 12 year old mark me feeling my heart sinking when he executed it and my heart breaking when Austin didn't kick out. It was a beautiful moment for sure.

To continue derailing this thread into being about The Rock vs. Austin at Wrestlemania XIX, the part when Rock storms out of the ring and puts on Austin's vest might be my favourite thing The Rock ever did in a match. Just incredible heeling.

Backlash 2002 was absolutely terrible. Great Cruiserweight opener and everything else went downhill.
