A character in Reservoir Dogs. And here is the scene we're comparing you to.

it's just like anything else, tipping will get you better consideration, if you don't care how good of a job the groomer does on your dog, then save yourself a few bucks.

I tip 15% to waitresses in restaurants and to the kids that pump gas. Not even aware you have to tip in other situations.

My girlfriend's a groomer. She gets tips here and there, but it's definitely not necessary. It's just nice if you like the job they did and if you'd like to request them by name.

If they do a bad job just because they're not getting a tip then they shouldn't have the job. They get paid a wage already to do a good job and work their best regardless of whether they get a tip or not. I don't think with my job "well, none of the parents give me a tip so they can forget about their kids learning their ABCs" so waiters, barbers or whoever else who think "well, that guy didn't tip me so next time I'm not going to try as hard" don't deserve their job. They're paid to provide a service and should do to the best of their abilities regardless.

Canada! There's less and less places that do it, but in the winter, I go there.

Wait, some people tip their barbers? I've never tipped anyone in my life. I don't agree with it. Good service should be given as part of the job you do and the wages you earn, not to expect a tip at the end of it. There are much more important jobs that deserve a tip. Like Doctors for example. Nobody slips a few quid into the Doctor's shirt pocket after he's replaced your lung which is a bit more important than the barber giving you a short back and sides. I don't think you get how tipping works. Most jobs where people tip in the states, (waitress, bartender, etc.) aren't paid a living wage. They're paid 3-5 bucks an hour, far under minimum wage. They make half of their living off of tip. When you dine at a restaurant, you're paying for the space you're eating in and the food, but the person bringing it to you is an additional luxury. If you dine in the state and don't intend on tipping, either tell them in advance that you'll bring the order to the cooks yourself and then pick up your own food, or don't eat at the restaurant at all.

Yeah, I can't lie, it is pretty douchey to never tip. For a lot of servers, most of their income comes from tips.
It reminds me of a story Chris Jericho told in one of his books about how Eddie Guerrero made him leave a big tip after eating at a restaurant. Eddie explained, "for you and me, it's just a couple of bucks. For that server, it might be the difference on whether or not the light bill gets paid this month."

The waiting staff bringing the food is part of the service provided by the restaurant as part of the fee. Rather than hate people who don't tip, hate restaurants and the policy that they can pay below minimum wage for some bizarre reason. The only time I've tipped someone was on a boat ride in London where the crew give a guided tour whilst on the journey which is something extra they do beyond what they get paid for. They're paid to sail the boat but gave a tour whilst doing so which made the journey more enjoyable so I tipped. Waiting staff are paid to take my order and bring me my food. They're not providing an extra service that warrants a tip.

I would never tip a dog groomer, what am I, some dumb frat boy? You know those groomers can't get back up and die of starvation! You savages!

If you ever visit here, don't ever go to a restaurant as it's on you to respect our customs.

As a former dog groomer, yes, you should. At the chain stores (that aren't Petco), groomers are usually overbooked. If you're known to be a good tipper, your dog will probably get preferential treatment whenever possible in terms of getting an appointment, speed, and quality of the groom.

Man, American culture is weird.
But you know, I am aware that I'd have to tip if it was over here.
In the UK I have the luxury of not tipping, because wages are better here. And I don't tip, unless you go above and beyond. People say sometimes that they tip a waitress for just being friendly and prompt, but I'd say that's pretty much the basic requirement of being good wait staff (again this is not an attitude I'd take in the US, where I'd pretty much tip regardless with the amount varying). If you go actually above and beyond then I might tip, and have done before now, but working in customer service as I do I have a really low tolerance for it being done badly. I mean obviously everyone has bad days but there's bad service and then there's bad service...
