Are the US and IC titles being restored to their old roles?

That being, in the NWA/WCW the US champion was a main event level guy who was the defacto number one contender, which could apply to either Cena or Rusev easily after Wrestlemania, and the IC title was the "worker's title" in that the best in ring wrestler such as Savage, Rude, Perfect, Hart, HBK, etc held that title while your big freaks like Hogan and Warrior had the WWF title, and if either Ambrose or Bryan hold that title, this could of course be true again.

No, for the simple reason that the way they've presented the show for the last dozen years if you aren't main event you're interchangeable.

No matter how many times a guy gets a midcard strap, unless they fundamentally change the way they book the shows, it's not gonna matter.

I think it just depends on who it's on and how they're booked. So if the champs are Daniel Bryan and John Cena, and they get booked strong with good wins and title defenses, it could be an improvement. If a year from now they're on lower card guys who job a lot, well, then it'll be back to how it is now. But it could change, anything could happen.

They easily can be if Lesnar remains champ for another year. He rarely appears and you have US and IC Title Matches Main Eventing Shows. You can do that easy with Cena and Bryan as champs. Cena and Bryan are your top two guys and Lesnar is the unstoppable Final Boss. If Reigns wins that ruins everything though. Damn Reigns.

it does seem like they are trying to even if the stealing the ic title angle is stupid but give it a couple of months and wwe will get bored of it then it will be business as usual

I honestly think the best case scenario is to keep Brock as champion for another year while Cena & Bryan main event the shows with their titles.

I'm not sure if that would help the belts at all. To me, it just says that Cena and Bryan would rather be WWE Champion, but can't and are settling for the U.S. and IC belts.

I say let Reigns be WWE Champ, but make him "not really the main event" and have Cena and Bryan above him.

With the comment from Bryan that he wants to carry Smackdown, the IC title is main eventing that show lately, they're using wrestlers who are over enough to be main eventers, I think WWE is trying to make the IC title on the level of what the WHC used to be. I also think that will last for about 6 more weeks.

My problem with the belts is that there are two of them. Is the US title more prestigous than the IC belt? I guess at the moment it is as Rusev is more credible than Barrett and Cena is gunning for it, but they've been so interchangeable for so long that they need merging in my eyes.

Yes, the IC title and U.S. title should have a unification match. But then the joke might be that the "world heavyweight title" could come back. That's why I hope they use a boxing or UFC term for the new belt. How about merging the IC and US title into an open weight belt ala " WWE Lightheavyweight" or "WWE Middleweight " champion.

If the US champion is a success they should be moved into this division, if the IC Champion does well like Ziggler did recently they should be pushed into the main events.

I mean it in the sense that Barrett interacts with "top" talents a lot more often and is part of that weird post-brand split "inner circle" that WWE makes sure is on RAW/SD regularly. Rose, Fandango and R-Truth (you know he's gonna disappear after WM), are hardly ever on the main shows and are usually on Superstars more often than not.
