This thread has reminded me that more need to throw discus punches.

This almost begins and ends with Bret Hart, for me.
I also dig Doc Gallows' punches in NJPW, dude throws a sweet haymaker.

You know, I see a lot of complaints about open fists, but you're SUPPOSED to do that. Closed fist punching is against the rules.

Any time the question of best punches comes up I always mention Tenryu, but I'm never certain if he counts because I'm pretty sure he just flat punches you in the mouth.

Heh, Sid was definitely a guy I was thinking of too with the worst punches. It's all "big wind up - gentle placement".
Hunter's got great punches, really worked on them when he joined D-X. Bret quality, Lawler agreed too. Goldust is pretty underrated as is Regal.
And also agree that Kane's uppercut is consistently excellent thanks to the slap timing. Almost always gets a reaction from the crowd.

Best: Harley Race Vader!
Worst: Tammi Sytch in her match against Paisley the WCW Thunder before Slamboree 2000

Gotta give credit to these guys: Necro Butcher Brain Damage Scott Hall/Razor Ramon
I wouldn't call his the worst, but I concur the Steve Austin's punches were crap after he sustained his neck injury. The main thing Austin had going from that point forward was his persona/character.

Best:
Bret. The Rock. Bossman. Tatanka. Vader (although, I think he was actually hitting them.)
Worst:
Hulk.

I can't believe it took three pages before someone said Vader.
The Undertaker has some really good punches from 97 on really when he started throwing punches and not so much throat trust (Which looked bad)

I can't believe it took three pages before someone said Vader. Hard to believe those punches are "worked"... although if so, then he is unquestionably number one.

To quote Foley, "Vader's stuff looked like it hurt... And it did." I'm a huge mark for Vader, but much of his striking offence was based around stiff forearm shots because most of his punches weren't worked, either because he was unable to do it well or just plain didn't want his punches to look any less brutal than the rest of his arsenal. He potatoed more than Ireland.

I remember Lance Storm said he'd let Hulk Hogan punch his children lol. I maintain that Lance Storm is a jerk & that he likes watching his children get punched by the Hulkster *Sobbing* "Why are you doing this to us Mr Hulk?" "Because your father said I could little girl, Brother!" *Lance just looks on, not showing any emotion, but gives Hogan an approving nod* STORM: "Break them, Hulk...Break them." OR STORM: Hogan!!!!!.....CRUSH!!!!!!!

I still think Scott Hall and The Rock have terrible worked punches. You could see how open handed they were. I never thought they were supposed to be closed fists, just legal open hand shots. I guess technically they're not punches.
