All three (yes, there was a third one about homeless gutter punks in L.A. in the late 90's) of Penelope Spheeris' "Decline of Western Civilization" documentaries will be released in DVD and Blu-Ray box sets by Shout! Factories. The four disk set (I assume the fourth disk is all bonus material) drops June 30th. I'm looking forward to this, I've only been able to see the first installment on a DVD-R and the second installment on either Sundance or IFC a decade ago (never seen the third one). So it will be nice to have a proper home video release that I can watch at my leisure. Here's Rolling Stone's story on the release: www.rollingstone.com/music/news/iconic-decline-of-western-civilization-films-finally-get-official-release-20150324

Jeez, it took long enough. I remember wanting to see these all back in the early 2000s, but like you said they can be tough to track down (especially the third one). The second one is pretty great. Especailly if you're a fan of 1980's metal, but even if you're not there's some entertaining stuff in it. That dude getting drunk in the pool with his mom watching him was something eh? I'd dig seeing the first, but I heard the third was just no name bands and kind of depressing. There's even a bit where they're all asked where they'll be in five years and everyone says dead from what I recall. Although I'd still give it a chance and watch it.

Really only care about the first one. Package a three pack with the first Decline film, Suburbia, and Wayne's World and I'd be in.

I had honestly never heard of the first one, although I was aware that The Metal Years was a sequel.

I've never seen the first or third one, but I absolutely love 'The Metal Years'. I feel really bad for some of the people who made it very clear they had no backup plan and, obviously, didn't make it to the level they hoped to. I really wish they'd do a follow-up on some of those bands.

These are the only films of hers that I have not seen. I am looking forward to this.

First one is pretty good.
The second one is shallow as shit (especially the desperation that Paul Stanley showed). The only good part is the very very end when Dave Mustaine just absolutely shits all over everyone.
The third one is just depressing.

Only watched part 1 and 2 but the second is worth a watch when you consider how it unintentionally helped start the decline of hair metal.
