I think I have made a thread about the show before, but here comes another one.
Any fans? I like the show, but I have a little bit of criticism for it as it goes on. First of all, they're hovering around the end of the 1980s with an occasional throwback to 84 or 86 shoehorned into an episode, which is kind of sloppy as there will be some younger viewers confused by timelines, if they care enough to do any type of research.
I could almost see them jump into the 90s (f*** that, personally) if they think it would improve ratings down the line.
Second, is most every episode seems to focus on Beverly and her sometimes creepy obsession with her kids. It seems to be even more of the focus than the fact that it's the 80s.
It kinda reminds me of That 70s show, in that at first I was excited for a show with a 70s setting, til I realized it was more of a show about Eric and Donna and they just happened to be in the 70s. and I stopped watching after a handful of episodes.
I just think the 80s should be a bit more prevalent.
Thoughts?

I think it's a pretty solid show, probably one of the better new sitcoms over the last 4-5 years. Kinda a throwback to stuff I liked in the 80's/early 90's

I was born in '81 so I'm quite familiar with a lot that the show does (Nintendo Power Glove for example). The timeline is very inconsistent, but it's fine. Still pretty funny show.

the timeline being inconsistent is part of the gag of the show as each show begins with "It was 1980....something..."

I started watching this when it became sandwiched between The Middle and Modern Family and I really like it. The timeline stuff doesn't bother me as much as I thought it might. The only episode where it really bothered me had Beverly watching the Princess Diana wedding (1981) and Lainey and her friend singing "Eternal Flame" (released 1989). That's just too big of a gap in one episode.

True, but I have noticed this in another show, Shake It Up, when they did a flashback to the 80s where the mother was upset because New Kids On The Block wouldn't play her birthday party-and it was 1986

I think the show's funny so the skewed timeline doesn't matter to me.

It's my favorite sitcom on TV right now. Plus I love Hayley Orrantia.

I love the show, but yeah, the timeline is messed up. For example, one episode had the kid and his brother finding out that her sister used to be a New Kids on the Block fan. Trouble is, NKOTB didnt start getting big until 1989, which means for the plot to work it would have to take place in 1992 at least. They should have at least used something like Menudo or even New Edition.

I haven't seen it, but I heard about the episode about a kid being devastated by Optimus Primes death in the original Transformers movie, and I want to check it out.

The only problem I have with Beverly being the creepy "smother" (as voiceover Adam refers to her as) is that she's already learned to let her kids go and have some more freedom about 14 times already.

I honestly love the show. The timeline thing is fine with me. It's not any particular year in the 80's. Adam's memory of that time is probably all jammed together just like mine so it's just generally the 80's. I think the humor is fresh and all the actors nail their roles.
I do have one major problem...you do an episode devoted to pro wrestling and you DON'T have Bill GOLDBERG on in some capacity.....that's just bush league.
