It was small, like a Sherman.

I'm pretty sure that it was a Soviet T-55.

I'm pretty sure that it was a Soviet T-55. Looked a lot like it. Didn't look like a Sherman or T-34, which are also pretty common tanks.

Being a student of Russian history, I can tell you the legendary story of how Mikhail Gorbachev and his family were vacationing near the Black Sea when they were held incommunicado, surrounded by rebellious troops. But somehow the word spread quickly as tanks rolled into position around the Kremlin. Upon hearing the news, Boris Yeltsin got dressed quickly and made a beeline to the Kremlin against the wishes of his wife and daughter. There, unarmed, in an incredible show of balls he stood atop a tank and ordered the army to disperse. There is a famous photo of Yeltsin staring down a tank commander. He's looking to Yeltsin like "OMG what should I do?" Yeltsin is all "Get the f*** outta here now!"
