Hello one and all to the FAN Idol Season X Interest Thread! After the exciting events of the Second FAN Pop Trivia Scavenger Hunt, hosted by the illustrious Pegasus Warrior and won by Games section fixture Mr. B Natural, interest for FAN Idol Season X has grown. With that in mind, let's use this time to discuss moving forward. First, you may ask, what is FAN Idol? FAN Idol is our version of the pop culture phenomenon American Idol, where-in contestants send in songs to fit various musical categories. A Host emcees the game, organizing songs and sending them anonymously to a panel of judges, who will rank the songs based on their own criteria. Categories can range from straightforward themes like Songs from Around the World and Songs that use a Piano or Keyboard to more demanding themes like Songs used in Commercials or Songs inspired by the Elements (Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and, in a nod to Captain Planet and the Planeteers, Heart). Here are links to the two Seasons I hosted/took over hosting for: Season VIII officialfan.proboards.com/thread/466349/idol-season-viii-round-progressSeason IX officialfan.proboards.com/thread/482682/idol-round-phase-songs-writeupI honestly can't say when we would start. I would like to start sooner than later, but I won't be involved in the judging or hosting, opting instead to play (won't count me out as a guest judge or replacement judge should I get eliminated and the need arises). There are several veterans who have expressed an interest in playing but I'd also like to see new players come aboard and show us their musical acumen. We would need a Host and at least four, possibly five, judges. In order to Host, you'll need to well organized, enthusiastic, have a great set of Rounds designed (as well as the flexibility to change ideas and, perhaps, adopt Round ideas suggested by the judges), have the ability to post rounds and results in a timely manner, and be on the forum frequently. If you want to judge, you'll need to have a love and deep knowledge of music, an interest in a diverse range of musical genres, enthusiasm and ideally the ability to give feedback to players, and the ability to judge and communicate with the host in a timely manner. Knalsic Loves to Boggie has expressed interest in judging and he's one of the best players this game has ever had (and one of the most diverse in musical tastes, several past contestants have talked about playing again, and a few veteran players have mentioned wanting to host. So, let's use this thread to plan a bit and get the game started!

I stepped in mid-season to judge last year so I didn't get much chance to really help out.
If you need another judge I can be in it for the long haul this time.

I'm in as a player my health isn't good enough to devote to Judging or hosting. I hope this isn't an April Fools Prank Indeed, it's not an April Fools Prank. It's real, just like the fine shower rings I sell . Will try to keep this organized. Right now, we have two people all but confirmed as judges, in Knalsic and Mr B, as well as someone from the great state of Hawai'i who will judge when that unknown person can (hint hint). Still, a few more judges will help, as well as possible back-ups. As far as the Host goes, well, we need to work on that, though people have expressed interest. We're getting the ball rolling here, though. Lots of people from last Season have shown interest but let's see if we can get some new contestants in as well.

I have about 40-50 songs off the top of my head I would love to showcase. Judging is crucial.
I would want to play, but if I notice the panel lacks some diversity, I would ok with judging this season and playing the next.
Depends on what players are ok with.
Mostly, I want new blood. So many off-topic posts about music and so many pissing contests there about who knows what song and album and who has seen who. I'd love to see more folks bring that approach into a "pick your favorite songs" game. I want new blood.

As far as judging goes, we have three people who I've talked to/ have mentioned wanting to judge:
Anonymous GM Knalsic Loves to Boogie Mr. B. Natural
That said, even if we keep the pace that we enjoyed during Peg's pop trivia game, we're still looking at several months. I'm not putting words in people's mouths because we're at the starting stage here, but those are three great judges, imo. It all depends on their time and availability, however.

You know how we did "open medium" rounds during certain times in World Series of Pop Culture? In my opinion, It would be nice to see a restriction on those artists that have been used six times or more. We've had nine seasons, so an artist/band used six times in nine seasons...well, seems like it would do us well to keep a bit of a limit so we just don't default to picking Foo Fighters and The Beatles for the win every round?
That being said, I know there are artists/bands that have been picked three of four times or so, but I still have my personal favorite song of theirs that's yet to be picked.
So, just seems like there is surely a happy medium of some sort that would help balance the game. Don't want to be too restrictive, but pandering just for the sake of pandering sure does suck.
EDIT: Also, in the awesome Double Dip round, it sure would be nice to keep those Foo Fighters and overused artists off the table for that particular round.
LOVE most of those bands and solo artists, but that's the point. There is no secret they're over with our players.
Maybe those types of bands could be available in the really specific, hard-to-do rounds. (like "make a pick that relates to Science")

If I can throw some input of my own, I liked the whole idea Peg had for WSOPC where the lowest vote would be dropped amongst the consensus. That way people wouldn't be affected as much by a single bad score.
Perhaps we could implement the same idea for this game?

By my count...
Potential Judges: Mr. B Anon GM Knailsic Double H Cage Peg
Potential Players: Cage (if not a judge) Double H (if not a judge) radradsley suave Waffel113 fw91 Brad DJ Magnum PI Demented
So we have a pretty decent group thus far, though 9 players (if Cage and Double H can't judge) is pretty dang low.
