So like 3 minutes into SNME from April 27th, 1991. Macho is interviewing Slaughter, Mania 7 has already happened, so Macho and Liz are together, yet Slaughter calls Macho a great American?
I was always under the impression Macho turned face at Mania 7, but this is like a full month removed from Mania 7......anyone know what's up?

Savage eased into being a face over the next few months on commentary. A great example is The Funeral Parlor segment where Warrior was stuffed into the casket, Savage was all about Warrior getting his ass kicked, but when the casket part happened, he even said it was a bit much.

I'm confused. You're saying Savage turned face at Wrestlemania, but you're wondering why he's face at SNME about a month after the PPV? Wouldn't that make sense? And considering Slaughter was an Iraqi supporter, wouldn't it be a heel comment to call someone a great American?

Yes, he turned face when he embraced Elizabeth after she (Elizabeth) stopped Sherri from attacking him. My guess is that he (or WWE) weren't exactly sure how Savage should do commentary/interview right after the Mania match. They may have thought Savage had just been heel and helped Slaughter at Rumble. Maybe they thought he should be a bit like Jesse Ventura, who had left the year before. After this event, they must have realized Savage needs to be fully babyface, especially when they decided to book a wedding angle for SummerSlam.

I like that Randy didn't immediately change his views upon turning face. I hate when someone turns face and is instantly best friends with the people they hated previously. Ultimate Warrior ended his career, and, as we saw with the Funeral Parlor segment, it took time for Savage's bitterness towards him to subside. Reuniting with Elizabeth gave his character a new outlook on life, but it took time.

As others have said, he turned face at WM7, but he still harboured resentment towards the Warrior, which made a lot of sense as Warrior ended his in-ring career. Even when he was a fully-fledged face, Savage was still opinionated, which was cool. He didn't just blindly love faces and hate heels. He made a cool, realistic commentator. I seem to recall seeing the segment you're talking about, and while it seems odd, Savage and Slaughter did have an alliance of sorts in late 1990 and early 1991, and the only things that had changed in Savage's world were the return of Liz and Warrior defeating him. It still made sense that he and Slaughter were on good terms. I love the complexity of classic wrestling stories at times.

In theory, Randy Savage should have actually had beef with Sgt Slaughter not The Ultimate Warrior. Savage was promised a title shot from Slaughter should he win the championship at Royal Rumble, Sherri "begged" Warrior for the same favour, he said no. Savage then helped Slaughter win the title for that very reason (as well as to get one over on Warrior) and then Slaughter didnt give him his shot, did he forget this?
But yeah I remember Savage still having some heelish tendancies post Mania up to where he proposed

There really wasn't huge difference between heel Savage and face Savage, only difference was he was a bit more vicious as a heel. But still you had solidly face Savage use the tights to wrap up Flair at WM8. You had face Savage brutalize Roberts with elbow drops, spit on him and attack Roberts during his own introduction and before the bell (and I realize what Roberts did to him yet Savage could be unhinged and crazy as well)
He always retained some heel traits
