My fav was Hot Rod, and I was excited when he took over the lead. What about you, people of FAN? Whom did you prefer?

Of the two, Optimus, but I was a huge Grimlock mark.

When I was a kid, I thought Rodimus Prime was 10 times cooler than Optimus Prime. Rewatching the series as an adult, however, I like Optimus better. Similarly, I didn't appreciate Megatron much when I was a kid and always rooted for Starscream to finally put him in his place, but now I think Megatron steals the whole show.

I like them both for different reason (Optimus for his good leadership and such, Rodimus for his more well-rounded character).
On the other hand, I like Galvatron more than Megatron...for both the crown helmet and the fact he had a better alt-form.

I always preferred Hot Rod/Rodimus. He was a little whiny at times, but Optimus was just a boring character to me.

As a kid I hated Hotrod because I realized that he was shamelessly pandering to me. He's the hero I was supposed to like--he's young and a racecar--not that boring old guy Optimus Prime. I mean, seriously, 18-wheelers are for OLD people. As an adult, I feel pretty much the same way.

Optimus had the gravitas needed for a leader, I feel. Both are better than Ultra "I CAN'T DEAL WITH THAT NOW!" Magnus
I must admit, last year I watched the entirety of the G1 Transformers cartoon, including the three japanese-exclusive seasons. Very little of it holds up, a patchy franchise at best. Watch season 1, the movie and you've seen the essential stuff.
I like the Japanese ones because Victory had a Decepticon/Destron leader called Deathsaurus. That's metal as ****

grimlock would have easily been leader if he wanted, he just sat back to let the other two think they were in charge.

That's metal as **** I feel a little bad for Magnus because he is sort of the "good soldier" who is dependable and good at being a teammate, but I guess the story they wanted to tell was that he was not cut out to lead and that his admirable qualities didn't translate to the position. It sort of mirrors how Starscream, for all of his ambition, doesn't command respect and loyalty from his teammates, generally speaking, and can't be the leader for long for that reason. Combine him and Magnus and you might have a full leader.

OPTIMUS PRIME! I wasn't going to accept anyone else when Optimus died. I marked out when they brought him back!

Galvatron! Really I like Galvatron better. Megatron was practical and good at coming up with evil plans whereas Galvatron was just f***ing nuts. There was even one season three episode where the Decepticons essentially had him committed lol.

Combine him and Magnus and you might have a full leader. That's a good story to tell, too bad it was in his first story so he seems inadequate. Put someone like Prowl in that role, who'd been around since the start and it'd have worked better. But that's not what the movie was for.
