Fight Club, and the author admits as much. A similar thing happened with Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Gary K. Wolf, I think. as he made a sequel book that was clearly more of a sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit? than "Who Censored Roger Rabbit?" it's possible. Though I have heard that the sequel book isn't very good

Tell No One by Harlan Corben. Which was a very solid thriller/romance novel.
The French adaptation of the book was AMAZING though. Canet really had a handle on how to take that book and translate it to another language, another culture and another medium in a way that really topped the book.
Corben was even quoted as saying that the film's ending was better than the ending he wrote for the book.

A Clockwork Orange. You could at least understand what was going on in the movie version.

No Country For Old Men and The Road. I f***ing loathe the way Cormac McCarthy writes, especially since he is capable of telling some fantastic stories and could be an excellent writer if he eschewed his pretentious bullshit and used some punctuation and quotation marks. Here's to hoping Blood Meridian gets a great movie too.

Definitely Watchmen, because having Dr Manhattan framed as the cause of the massacres made much more sense than the octopus squid thing

Anything by Mark Millar. Kick-Ass, Kingsmen... even Wanted, though the book had a much better premise.
Though, kind of weirded out by Matthew Vaughn's fetish for tailors.
"We have a book about super-villains ruling the world and a book about modern day James Bond Agents! "Meh" "What if we make them instead about killer weavers and tailors!" "BRILLIANT!"

A bit of a broad generalization here, but Iron Man. Tony Stark has been a relatively unlikeable character in comics for as far back as I've been reading, so the fact that the films managed to make him a real prick and still be likeable is incredible.

A Clockwork Orange. You could at least understand what was going on in the movie version. Came in to say A Clockwork Orange, book was great but the movie improved it (plus it helps that Alex doesn't rape 2 10 year olds in the movie)

I guess I need to watch A Clockwork Orange. If it's better than the book, then I'll love it!

I'll definitely agree with the Godfather and Fight Club, though the books aren't horrible.
I tried my damndest to read LOTR. I made it to the mines of Moria, and if I hadn't seen the movies, I wouldn't have made it that far lol.
Another one I'll throw in is the original Star Wars. Lucas wrote the novel for ANH, and I'm assuming actual authors wrote the next two. Reading ANH was painful.
Along the same line, the novel for Revenge of the Sith did a lot better job explaining Anakins decent.

When ever I've tried to read Lord of the Rings I tap out when Tom Bombadil shows up.
In short, Tom Bombadil can eat a dick

Anything based on Mark Millar's work, That guy is a goddamn hack (Red Son was a fluke).
Thankfully the people behind his book based movies just take the concept and write something good.

I'm actually kind of surprised by the mention of The Shining as the book is stellar and the film was... well, I thought it was pretty bad. So bad that the low-budget made-for-tv-movie with the guy from Wings was much, much better.

Twilight
Largely because most of Stephanie Meyer's purple prose is absent, and Bella is less of a bitch in the films.
