I only saw a few of his NOAH matches as well as his ROH matches, from that I could tell he was a hell of a talent. Sad to see him go and I hope that he maintains his health.

His initial confrontation with Samoa Joe in ROH where they "accidentally" bumped into each other was one of the most real looking things I've ever seen in wrestling. I was in attendance for that and the crowd popped huge for it, it was louder than how it came across on the home release. I got to see him wrestle at the first ROH PPV taping back in May 2007 against BJ Whitmer, he was a beast.

Yeah, going to shows in NJ and NYC I got spoiled watching him work so many matches against Danielson and Nigel (I still hate the fact that I had to miss his match against Joe in Manhattan). I remember some people back then getting on his case for whatever reasons, but I absolutely loved his run as champion.
I've got to wonder about that whole "Vince felt disrespected that he was out of shape" thing. Like...did it have an effect on his work during his tryout? I mean, if it did then that's a problem, you'd want to go into a company WWE's size performing at your best. If it didn't, then who the hell cares? Makes me wonder how a guy like Bam Bam Bigelow would've done in today's WWE.

While his style is very different, I do still suggest checking out his 2013/2014 work. I know it can be a bit jarring at first because it's such a far different transformation, but there's some cool stuff in there.

Man I remember his match with Joe being absolutely brutal. There is a point where Joe is frustrated and just whips off a soccer kick into a seated Takeshi, who proceeds to just eat it in the face.
