I remember hearing talk on this back then, but what was the basis of these rumours?

"Would the Rock ever go to TNA?" "Nope."
That pretty much covers it.

WWE didn't renew his contract in early 2005.

I only remember them showing a commercial for the Spike TV Man awards or some shit and they showed a brief clip of Rock shaking hands with Jarrett.
"AND LOOK WHO GOT TO TALKING!"

Like literally every other big name TNA has picked up, it wouldn't matter. He'd be just another dude on the roster in 3 months.

I remember that Rock was in a game called SpyHunter in 2006 that got plugged pretty heavily on TNA around the time.
Sure, the reason was that Midway developed the game, but I'd be amazed if TNA weren't thirsty for any sort of interaction with The Rock.

Or like the time They Called out Lesnar and Goldbergs names in a promo and one of them was threatening to sue.

Inductee of the 2015 class of the TNA Hall of Fame: THE ROCK for the promotion of that game on their TV.

^^^^^ Just Like that time Jericho was on Impact (when they aired a fozzy music video) You're right man, f*** Jericho really played tna, before he returned on 2007 he had a meeting with Jeff and Dixie Carter, then he leaked it to the internet so that the WWE would give him more money.

There wasn't much of a chance of it happening. At the time they were not as big. Rock seems like he wants the biggest promotion possible for his work.
