Ah, Smackdown Magazine. I remember the article where they told the fans what it took to be a wrestler:
-Driving a lot -Desire to have ruthless aggression -Tape

Wasn't there another magazine called Raw that had more raunch or whatever the hook was supposed to be?

Wasn't there another magazine called Raw that had more raunch or whatever the hook was supposed to be? Raw was their shoot magazine that debuted during the attitude era. With the brand split, WWE magazine became Smackdown magazine.

They had WWF Magazine and later added Raw Magazine. I don't remember when they added Raw Magazine, but I think it was around in 1997 because I remember some TV segments surrounding it.
Edit: Raw Magazine was added in 1996. These were the Vince Russo years.

Raw Magazine was 96, I remember the first issue had Vader doing a Vader Bomb on Gorilla Monsoon.
I was a subscriber from 1992 until the bitter end. For a while it was pretty cool getting 2 magazines a month, back when the brand split actually mattered.

I dont see PWI in supermarkets anymore tho. Last I did was 4 years ago when I worked at a supermarket, it would be PWI the one month then the next would be The Wrestler/Inside Wrestling, then one month it wasn't there and never returned.

I remember for a while they would have Superstars tell funny stories and they would recreate it in comic strip form with action figures.

I used to love collecting the magazines, WWE Magazine was the all kayfabe publication, and Raw magazine was the part-kayfabe, part-shoot one. Then about late 2003, WWE was changed to SmackDown magazine, and the format of Raw was changed to all kayfabe. Lasted til the summer of 2006, when they dropped Raw, rebranded SmackDown back to WWE after the ECW brand came in.
Stopped buying the magazine in 2012ish, when the UK started getting their own 'localised' version of WWE Magazine. Was dreadful, the pages were really just full size photos and adverts. I remember there was a two page spread of a salad plate in one of the UK mags, was so poorly made.

Ah, yeah. My father had a subscription to both of them, and when Smackdown magazine was phased out, his subscription was merged into the main WWE magazine so for a few years after he passed, I still received the magazines. It ended in 2012 or so, then I just bought whatever magazines had someone on the cover I liked, or an article that was too cool to pass up.

Somewhere in my attic I have a bunch of old WWF Magazines with the glossy covers. The one of Elizabeth is still my favorite.

My local Barnes & Noble stopped carrying them months ago, haven't seen them since. I didn't really care much when WWE Magazine was canceled, but it'll be a sad day for me when I found out PWI is a goner too.

Yea, I hope PWI always exists, so its what every other month now or so? So there isn't any monthly wrestling magazine now. WWE still had a Wrestlemania magazine tho that that was in the supermarkets, so there's that.

I picked up my first copy of WWE Magazine at Dunham's Discount Sports (September '92 issue with Papa Shango on the cover) and subscribed shortly thereafter. I still haven't removed my final issue from the plastic wrap it came in. I definitely remember Raw Magazine; those Sunny and Sable pictorials were gold for 12-year-old me. I had letters published in both WWE and Raw Magazine, which was pretty cool. Of course I understand why they aren't around anymore, but I miss the days of going to the newsstand and seeing it stocked with wrestling magazines. WWE, WCW, Pro Wrestling Illustrated, The Wrestler, Inside Wrestling, Wrestle America, Wrestling's Bad Guys ... I bought 'em all.
