"There was no way we couldn't talk about this one today - in fact, I don't think I've had a more requested topic! Valve recently allowed modders to start selling their work through its Workshop, a move that has ignited comment sections, social media, and Steam itself. It's chaos out there!
So let's wade into the discussion and try to weigh the pros against the cons, shall we? Forewarning... there are a LOT of potential cons."

The fact that there is little accountability means that the system is going to be ripe for abuse. Valve really should take a more hands on approach with filtering out the crap.

I bought Cornfed for a pretty penny. I bet the penny was was really dirty and had gum residue on it.

"Man, I sure do love the free market and all its benefits! Wait, what the hell? They're charging for mods now?!"
But yeah, paid mods are a tricky thing. Good modders making a product deserve to be compensated for it but that product is based off of someone else's IP. Plus with how bad Steam Greenlight became, I doubt the modding community can handle running their own marketplace any better.

Anybody with an ounce of common sense could see this coming a mile away.

While I guess it was inevitable, I hope that they do take a suggestion I've seen more than once of a donate button, to donate to modders who make good content, though I am not sure how they'd work out who gets a cut. It would help reward good content and be less open to potential abuse, since I doubt that many would donate to a bad mod. That could still be tricky to work out, though.

I think the uproar was a bit over the top.
I mean if you don't agree with paying for Skyrim mods through steam workshop it's no big deal, there's plenty of online modding communities with free mods.
People should get on valves case about their shitty customer service instead of this.

There's nothing wrong with buying mods. How do you think we've managed to continue our...waste management & construction businesses going for so long?
