Ryback is terrible and clumsy in the ring, plus his charisma isn't anything to write home about
not a big Reigns guy, but dude can put on some damn good matches

Between the two, Reigns by a mile. He's good on the mic, much better in the ring, and he's got youth on his side. He's also attractive, which never hurts a face (see also, his cousin).
I know RyBack gets a lot of love here, but I just can't see it. oFor a man that's been wrestling for ten years, his ring work still leaves MUCH to be desired. He's got a look (straight out of the '80s) and some hard hitting moves, I'll give him that. Problem is, he's not the only one with strong moves, and he's HARDLY the only one who knows how to work a crowd. He's good for a big guy, but "good for a big guy" isn't the highest bar in the world, and it doesn't mean that he meets the bar for THE guy.

Reigns is in a weird spot because of booking. All his single matches on ppv have been good to awesome, but his TV matches are usually very formulaic. I can't help but be a little apathetic towards him because of this.
That said, his selling has been really good, and as long as he stays far away from the Looney toons promos, he gets my pick.
Though Dean Ambrose should be in his position

Ryback was more over in late 2012 than Reigns can ever dream of being.

rybacks still looking poor in the ring as much as i want to like him. Reigns has actually had 3 good singles ppv matches in a row and one of them was with the big show

I bet Ryback could have just as good results if he got to have a main event match with Daniel Bryan, get thrown around by Brock Lesnar for 20 minutes, and have a typical Last Man Standing Match with Big Show.

Del Rio and Sheamus would have gotten a pop if they did a spear through the barricade spot. That doesn't exactly require talent. Once you've reached a certain Holy Shit Quotient, it's almost impossible to have a bad match, regardless of how much "wrestling" was actually done in said match. I'm legitimately curious where the idea that Roman Reigns is a better wrestler than Ryback came from. Ryback's Brogue Kick reversal into a powerbomb probably takes more skill than anything Reigns has ever done. Ryback has a better offense, a bigger presence, and he's charismatic as all hell. More than that, he's a legit big guy, which is important to contrast from Roman Reigns who is a medium guy who is booked like a big guy. I'd go with Ryback any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.

The main reasons I'd say Reigns is better in the ring are that he doesn't have the same history of botching things and nearly injuring people, his move execution tends to be a lot smoother, and he's a pretty good seller. Granted, presence, a defined gimmick, and mic skills are more important to me than ring work. Someone bad in the ring can put on a great match (Reigns is a good example, since he's still not very good), but someone bad on the mic isn't cutting a good promo and a bad character isn't likely to have a good storyline.

Reigns: Confirmed Wank Pheasant.
Ryback: Possible Wank Pheasant, pending investigation.
Ryback wins.

I love Ryback and his lovable meathead persona, but for me its a case where I think he's gotten as good as he's ever going to be. Reigns just seems to have a much higher ceiling, even if he's not ready to be top guy right now.

Right now?
Probably Ryback...
Reigns has way more potential long term.

At least when Ryback has an awful promo, it's 5 star gold. #VickyDeservesBetter

Reigns has actually had 3 good singles ppv matches in a row and one of them was with the big show I agree that Ryback is still not much in the ring. I just think he's got the personality to get past that. He's got an interesting combination of being a wrecking ball but also having a certain vulnerability, and I think that could be channeled into good babyface sympathy. And that's the department where Reigns will continue to have trouble, because he doesn't come off vulnerable at all, so they have to lay it on extremely thick with the "how much more can Roman Reigns take!?!?" torture porn matches, which to me is already tiresome.
