Although I keep hearing wistful thinking about Samoa Joe coming in as a surprise replacement for the NXT title match at the NXT Special, I'm not sure that's going to happen. They could always do Balor vs Steen 2 or even Breeze vs Steen , but neither would really have the buzz of the Sami/Steen re-match. Debuting Uhaa in the spot is intriguing, and although NXT would be a good place to do that kind of debut, I think Uhaa has to earn his stripes there with the crowd a little bit before they put him in that kind of position.
So my question is, if you were to replace Sami in the main event with a main roster guy, who would you do it with?
I think if he wasn't injured, Bryan would have been a perfect guy to slot in because even as a main roster guy, he would have indie/NXT cred that could create a buzz. Someone like Ambrose or Cesaro would work as well. And although it might be a little sacreligious, I think having Cena step in would be pretty special, with the story that he saw the fight in Sami and thus can't respect someone like Steen. However, Steen would have to win the match against whoever he faces, so that would likely eliminate Cena.
So who would you pick? And yes, I'm bracing for a lot of "Big Show" and "Kane" answers to this thread.

They could do some schmozz finish where the belt doesn't change hands, because I really like the idea of Cena taking the spot. It'd be like Punk vs. Ambrose years ago, except televised. Doing an inconclusive finish like that would give Steen and Cena a natural issue when Steen comes up as well.

I think you're right about creating a future story, and I mean come on, smark or not, I bet NXT would apreciate John Cena vs Kevin Owens (Steen) as a special moment, even if the crowd will most likely crap all over Cena. And though a schmozz might kill the crowd a little bit, having Sami come out against doctor's orders and in a sling to help Cena from geting powerbombed on the apron or something would be a cool moment as well.

Cena would get a HUGE pop, then (most) fans will dutifully boo him. But it would be so good. For the finish just do some ref bump/run-in craziness, a total melee. End with Cena and Steen being pulled apart, or more Cena being held back and Steen smirking his way to the back with his title so he can buy his kids some mac and cheese.

I attended a Q and A session with Dolph Ziggler at Wizard World yesterday and he mentioned wanting to "Knock out" Kevin Owens (besides people called up to the roster and a few of the divas, the only NXT person he mentioned), so I'd be on board for that.

Dolph is type that could pop the crowd, be legit and lose without issue. Neville isn't too far removed from this all, with Owens even power bombing him out of NXT I think, so that could work in a pinch.

Heath Slater. Just give him Zaynes theme music and nobody can tell the two Gingers apart anyways.
