Who would have been predicted or the favorite for the 1992 Royal Rumble?
Was it obviously Flair?
Was Sid gonna get his push?
Was Hogan a reliable guy to fall back on and give it to?
Would it be an outsider?
I honestly don't know - hence I ask for your thoughts

I'd rather see 1993. I'd love to see the reaction to the Wrestlemania IX's ending as it went down.

There was an IWC in 1992. It was VERY Anti-McMahon.

Also, all signs were pointing to Flair/Hogan at the time, so Flair winning it was the foregone conclusion.

I'm not sure if it goes back as far as 1992, but I have seen links to usenet groups of people discussing wrestling online from the Attitude Era. People were complaining about Edge and Christian dominating the Tag Title scene, hating on the Rock for being too catchphrase-y and only appealing to women, and saying Kurt Angle was too green, had no idea how to work a crowd and needed to spend some time in Japan to learn how to wrestle, among other things.
I really hope to see posts from even further back someday because I am sure the will be just as amusing to look back on!
EDIT: There's a thread on the WWE forum discussing this now!

Pretty sure we all thought it was Skinner's year.

Here you go, some random postings from 1992 and 1993, chose any old date, then clicked on threads with a high number of replies (most of them only had between 1-5) that sounded interesting : linklinklinklink

Probably Hogan, Flair or Taker, given they were all involved in the storyline setting the Rumble up.
There might also be a contingent for Piper, especially when they set him up to potentially win two titles in one night.

There was. And it was the same people saying Hogan is shit who's kids now say that Cena/Reigns/whoever is total shit and their kids will say Duke Lesnar is shit in 20 years.

No matter what era internet fans complain about whose ever on top. They root for the midcarders and usually say that the old days were better. It was the stereotype back then, as it is now.

Pretty sure we all thought it was Skinner's year. Wasn't it this Rumble that Monsson said, and I'm para-phrasing, "There are 29 guys who could win the Rumble, and Skinner."

This makes me wonder if Herb Kunze killed himself with what the American wrestling scene became.

rec.sport.pro-wrestling is actually archived back to 1990, and I know that wrestling has been discussed in usenet long before that. It's been ages though, since I've done any internet archaeology, and I don't recall specifics.

Flair and Sid I would guess would be the two favorites. Even though he always won, I don't think Hogan would've been as much as a favorite going in since he had just won the title and was stripped of it. I think most people would've realized that it wouldn't have made any sense to strip him of the belt if he was just going to win it right back anyways.

Great topic! I re-watched this PPV last week and was wondering the same thing. There were so many guys who could have legitimately won it, but I guess all the smart fans would have banked on Flair-Hogan for WrestleMania and thus figured out the winner.
Does anyone know what the sheets were predicting?

A black man being burned alive by a Southern white man and a man who has been a Satan worshiper on live TV?
I think I found Vince Russo!
