The correct term is "I could not care less", but I've slipped up and said "could" accidently, and I'll probably do it again. It's a harmless mistake that everybody's made at least once, why has the internet blown this up as the word crime to end all word crimes?
I could care less how people feel about my grammar at this point. COME AT ME.

I agree it's harmless, but it is the exact opposite of what you're trying to say, that's a pretty big mistake.

Which is why I sometimes say "I could care more," which is what some people mean. It means "I could care more than I actually do."

It's annoying and lazy. Should it be considered the worst of all poor grammar? No, but it's ridiculous to say it that way regardless.
Not to mention, when online there's no excuse with spell-check and being able to edit posts on message boards.

I'm more annoyed with double-negatives and "could of."

Technically they both have a different meaning, but couldn't care less sounds alot better then could care less.

I have a friend who is very intense on his hatred for Daylight Savings Time when people say that. Personally, I don't get how people have such strong opinions on this stuff. You know what people mean.

I'm more annoyed with double-negatives and "could of." Double negatives don't phase me, but "of" instead of "'ve" or "have" drives me up a wall.

If you use the wrong phrase the grammar police will abduct you and force you to do remedial adult education classes.

Yeah, the could/coun't care less thing is nothing.
What IS maddening, however, is using literally in place of figuratively.

It's not even necessarily wrong to me, just another way of stating it.
Couldn't care less = I literally care the least I possibly could. Could care less = could care even less, there's no limit to how little I can care.
And it's just one of those phrases that evolved to roll off the tongue easier. In fact, cutting down the number of syllables implies even less caring.

What bugs me is when somebody uses "verse" (back-formation from "versus") as a verb which means "compete against".
"You've got to verse him in Super Smash Bros." What's that shit? Say "fight" or "go against" if you're trying to keep it simple...

I think David Mitchell summed it up best: "'I could care less' is absolutely useless as an indicator of how much you care, because the only thing it rules out is that you don't care at all, which is exactly what you're trying to convey."
