While reading this thread I thought about how the WWF/E didn't always phone-in the parts of the year that weren't the road to Wrestlemania. While there are numerous examples during the monthly ppv era, I wanted to come up with a log of examples of great feuds in the Big 4/5 era that took place between PPVs or that didn't get a proper one-on-one/two-on-two blowoff on PPV. I'll start off with the most obvious example: Jake Roberts and Ravishing Rick Rude had the Cheryl Roberts angle in a 1988 "dead zone". Super heated feud, started after Wrestlemania, carried through the summer, and was blown off on Saturday Nights Main Event in October. Also, around the same time, Hogan and the Bossman had a great feud that bled into the Mega Powers vs Twin Towers. Started in October and concluded in February. What are some others you remember?

Sandman vs. Carlito was far more entertaining than it had absolutely any right to be.

Despite how one-sided it ended up being, Christian's feud with Randy Orton produced some fantastic matches.

It's cheating a little but The Steiners vs Money Inc had a series of matches that started in June and culminated in their brilliant cage match that took place at the "Summerslam Spectacular" two weeks before S.Slam '93.
As others are listing more modern examples The Shield vs The Rhodes Bros was one of the only highlights during the S.slam to RR period in 2013.

Many a tag team cage match with my action figures would end that way.

What's the finish? I can't find the match on YouTube and I assume it's not on the network.

I think people are missing the point of this topic? Someone just said Taker/Mankind took place in a dead zone? They had matches at numerous PPV's in their 1996 feud.

Rick Martel and Tito Santana feuded for years without a pay per view match. Hell,I think they're still feuding.
Ultimate Warrior and Undertaker feuded at house shows but never really did anything on tv let alone pay per view in 1991 following the Funeral Parlor incident.
Jake Roberts and Earthquake in 1991 as well.

Even though it was largely comedic I loved the Rock vs Hurricane mini feud.

Even though it was largely comedic I loved the Rock vs Hurricane mini feud. Rock put Hurricane over huge during that. I mean, truly, how often does a low/mid card guy get great verbal shots at Rock? I also loved how Rock would talk down to him... 'Before you do all that unrealistic super hero crap and fly out of here, lemme ask you something...' And when Hurricane would...swoosh..out, Rock, after saying it was unrealistic and fake, ect..would actually look up as if he were really flying.

SummerSlam 1996 is hardly a dead zone, neither was Survivor Series...had matches at both. Austin/Dude Love was a nice post-WM feud in 1998. Taker-Shawn post-SummerSlam 1997.

I agree, that was the point I was making. But again, Austin/Foley and Taker/Shawn had matches at numerous PPVs in those feuds. The topic is him talking about feuds that happened strictly on TV, house shows or special events (i.e. - SNME) that never got any sort of PPV match. An example I think he would be looking for, even though I wasn't necessarily a huge fan of this feud, but The Rock/Al Snow in winter of 1999. There was a long break between Armageddon '99 and the Rumble, Snow had just turned heel on Foley who was Rock's on again off again friend, and they had like a 3-4 week program. Someone in the thread already said Steiners/Money Inc, that's a great example. Sadly, the later we get past the era of the Big 4 PPVs being stand alone, the feuds and space between PPV's are shorter and shorter, and you're not able to cite very many great and lengthier feuds that didn't get PPV matches, ala Rude/Roberts.

I misunderstood, I thought he meant non-Big 4/5 PPVs. A lot of those IYH events had one or two good matches and the rest were crap on a stick.

Booker and Austin after the Invasion. Booker cost Austin the undisputed title at Vengeance but they never had a pay per view match.

The Berzerker and Undertaker feud post WM 8 the set up for the feud was done so well I was so hoping these two were going to have a match at SummerSlam 1992 in a vikings funeral match, I was sad when it didn't happen

What's the finish? I can't find the match on YouTube and I assume it's not on the network. IRS is climbing out and Rick is already outside. Rick positions himself underneath IRS so that he ends up on his shoulders and keeps him there until Scott gets out I couldn't find it on YouTube either but found it on DailyMotion under Steiners vs Money Inc Cage
