Yes, they mention it a lot, though to be fair, I think she does have more natural athleticism than most of the Divas. It's their way of trying to hype up Naomi by pointing out one of her strengths. It's not like they can call her a ring technician or mat specialist. I don't think there are any racial overtones or aspects to describing her that way. Also, WWE announcers can't use the distinction 'best athlete' for just any Diva as it simply doesn't apply to most of the others.

You ever notice that black wrestlers often get complimented on their athleticism rather than any kind of specific technique or skill on their parts? It's almost like WWE is saying something about its opinion of black people. This happens all the time in televised sports. Watch any random NFL game, it's always: Black athlete: Just a freak athlete. Plays on instinct. Plays with a lot of flash. White athlete: Not the greatest athlete. Very cerebral player. Would play for free. It can sometimes seem like coded racism.

It's almost like WWE is saying something about its opinion of black people. That's not a WWE exclusive and is quite standard actually. There's two things black folks are attributed in athletic/pseudo-athletic competition. They are "athletic." They are "explosive." As to why this phenomenon occurs, who knows? I tried to ask this black dude I know about it, but he was too busy athletically exploding all over the place to respond.

Although, Torrie Wilson was "sneaky fast" and Kelly Kelly was a real high-motor talent.

It's almost like WWE is saying something about its opinion of black people. Wrestling isn't the only one that does this. In the NFL, for example, watch how many black quarterbacks are praised for their "athleticism", while white quarterbacks are praised for their "intelligence."

Whenever you have to harp on a wrestler's "athleticism", more often than not, they are trash.

Whenever you have to harp on a wrestler's "athleticism", more often than not, they are trash. That and potential. Either way, it's saying "that boy/girl has the goods to be great; goddamn if you can't see it in their match, though." Sad thing is, that doesn't apply to Naomi because she's not green as goose shit. If anything, the "potential" line much more applies to BTB (Big Titty Bella).
