Seems like the Soul Calibur games have gotten more and more hate with every release.
I: Pretty much universally loved.
II: Don't really remember much hate for this one.
III: Criticized for glitches, QTEs, and Chronicles of the Sword (which I loved).
IV: Criticized for small offline content, Star Wars characters, awful online, ridiculous fanservice, and from a competitive point of view, I believe it was very unbalanced.
V: Replaced the old characters with ones nobody liked, story mode was too short (I enjoyed it, personally).
Lost Swords: Was free, but they should have payed me to play it, it was so bad. Should've just been a Soul Calibur version of Tekken Revolution (haven't played it since it first came out, so I don't know if they've improved it).

I loved Chronicles of the Sword but 3 was glitchy as hell... especially the do anything to your memory card and it will corrupt your save file also I remember reports on the last level of Chronicles being broken. I don't remember since I only played the last stage a few times before the aforementioned save corruption.

II was also Universally Loved upon released and is pretty much considered the best of the series. III was pretty well liked, but it had the nasty save glitch that would completely corrupt your save file.

The games might be becoming increasingly hacky, but the soul still burns...
They just quilt caring or something.
Caliber was prime Edge. Caliber 2 was prime Caliber. Caliber 3 was a quirky but still welcome addition. (kinda like Alpha or MK 3) And then....... less and less and less. And.... suck.

I hope not, because it's the only fighting game with a good character creation mode, and I want to see a PS4 version so I can get clear screenshots of my characters, dammit.

I do love their Creat-a-fighter mode. But I do have to like any game that has that I want them to make a stand alone Chronicles of the sword more or less for that reason

2 is heralded as one of the most balanced fighting games ever made, which was great. The gulf between the top tier and bottom tier was smaller than any other fighting game.

Soul Calibur 4 is a good fighting game, heck I played it online yesterday it is still really solid.
5 was a disaster though, It's one thing bringing in new characters but just straight up cloning and replacing them with young versions was a poor story telling choice. Combined with two distinctly un-likeable protagonists and turning Kilik into Edgemaster mark 2 was just bad devolpment on every level. The only praise I can give for 5 is I could make a really good Mysterio (marvel)

Soul Blade will always be my favorite. It's my favorite 3D fighting game of all time.
Soul Calibur II was awesome. I liked the exclusive characters for each system, though I wish PS2 would have got someone besides Heihachi (sp?). The first Soul Calibur was okay. It wasn't bad by any means, but it wasn't as good as Blade and II. I only played III once and haven't played any of the others.

I had 2, 3, 4, and 5.
5 broke me as a fan. Such a shit game. Pretty much no reason to play after going through arcade mode and the boss rush thing. Especially as a Kilik main. I want to beat people with a stick with him, not as shit tier Goku.

I loved the first game and the second game is one of my all time favorite fighting games ever. Weapon Master Mode is how you exactly do a fighting game campaign and no other fighting game has yet to even come close to topping it as far as a campaign mode goes.
Things started going downhill with 3. Off balance, filled with glitches. Having to do insane requirements in story mode only to have it all go to nothing because you did not QTE. Chronicles of the Sword was an alright mode and I've come to notice people either loved or hated SC3 based on how much they loved or hated this mode. It was a cool idea but I think it could have been done better and it would have been fun if not for the glitchy and off balanced gameplay. I was not a big fan of it and just made me miss Weapon Master Mode. They fixed what was not broken with 3.
For how much I dislike 3, 4 to me feels like the most forgettable. I liked this a little better than 3 but was still miles from the glory of 1 and 2. If I also remember right like 80% of the new fighters were sex object female. Really made me think it was taking a Dead Or Alive turn. The only things I remember that were good from it was the character creation was really good it in and online was not awful but it was ok.
I like what they tried to do with 5 by having a new era of fighters but most of them are either just copies of classic fighters (in that case just bring back the classic fighters everyone loves) or just seemed very one dimensional. Unless their names or Viola and Dampierre. In fact a good deal of the classic fighters are in the game so it kind of kills the whole new generation gimmick they were going for. I remember this one being about the same page as 4 as far as gameplay went. The online I thought was god awful and if I remember right, you can rage quit with no punishment or affect to your online record. So you could never finish an online match because everyone would leave when they were about to lose. That and I remember if you wanted to win a ton online, you go Viola or nothing.
Soul Calabur is a game where I think they could make a 6th one but the question comes to how they can make the game better. I don't think adding anything will help and the gameplay was perfect in 2, just do that but put more in it. I think Soul Calibur just needs to go back to basics. They had it right to start but just got off course.
In order to best from worse imo, 2,1,5,4,3.

I really like 5, I think the story mode was a step back, but otherwise it was the best one since 2. Ezio was even a guest character which made sense. I just wish you could take his moveset for created guys.
I, as a joke, made a maid that had the Devil moveset. It was a lot cooler in action than one would have expected.
