Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter WWE officials have reportedly changed their thoughts on signing former TNA World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles. AJ is the current IWGP Heavyweight Champion and considers New Japan Pro Wrestling to be home, and is under contract, but WWE is interested in signing him. WWE is looking to have three touring brands in 2016 and want to load up on as much quality talent as they can. 3? Which are the other 2?

They have too many active wrestlers on the roster, they need a few necks to be broken...

Even though Styles is one of the gold standard of stars in the 21st century and the current "Sting" of this generation as "biggest name to never sign with WWE", I want to believe the only reason they're willing to sign him now is because WWE saw their AJ retire. Please don't rob me of this beautiful thought. And I personally want it to stay that way. I want AJ to be someone who gives wrestlers hope that you don't have to make it to WWE to be a success and if he signs, I think it ruins that. AI Styles is a good wrestler because he DIDN'T wrestle in WWE. Let people learn that and let it sink in. I've never understood the pride in not going to WWE. It's like saying you are the best MMA fighter to not be in UFC, or the best quarterback to never be in the NFL. It's already been proven by guys like Christopher Daniels that you can make a living on the indies. There's nothing to prove here. As for New Japan, and it being too late, people do realize that his contract will eventually expire, right? This is WWE making it known that when that contract is up, he has options. And personally, I'd love it. AJ and Joe are really the last two guys that I always wanted to see in WWE that never went there. One down, one to go.

A little late for that, don't you think? Where was this interest when he first left TNA and was actually available to be signed? from what I remember the word was WWE saw him as a great talent but thought he was getting too old to adjust... then he started killing it in Japan and people started to see that AJ was still awesome

If this goes down it would def be a Joe type of deal. He would obviously work NXT and maybe a little main show for a few month stretches to get that mania match as I expect Samoe Joe to have one next year. As far as signings are going WWE is getting anybody and everybody they want so I don't see why AJ couldn't work if all the paperwork is correct and agreed to.

I think the interest has more to do with NXT becoming an entity and needing more names to create interest if/when they start touring. Styles and Joe have name value to the niche audience they are targeting.
It's amazing how NXT has become what TNA should have been many years ago. No foresight by Dixie Carter, which isn't surprising.

I guess it'd mean he'd at least not do the Styles Clash anymore, since someone would have the guts to tell him no. Yeah, let's remember when he broke the necks of Suzuki, Goto, Makabe, Tanahashi, Anderson, Adam Cole, Cedric Alexander, Sydal, Yano, Takahashi, Taguchi, Honma, Jamin Olivencia, Naito, Hanson, Briscoe, Lethal, Will Osprey, Kaz, ACH, and all the others as well. Oh wait, HE DIDN'T You do realize that the three incidents were the other guys' fault and they went and admitted that it was because of them the move messed up and they got injured? Next time when you state something, get the facts straight.

It's simply not worth it, and even before Yoshi Tatsu got injured, he's dropped guys on their heads before. Luckily, most of the time it's been fine, but if it's a move this many people have gotten hurt on, is it worth it, considering the guy has the ability to do so many flashy moves? Spiral Tap, etc, it's not like he'd be f***ed by it.

AJ Styles vs Seth Rollins sounds great, actually.

Considering that the Curb Stomp has been banned despite there never being a confirmed injury from it, and that they only trust their biggest workers who haven't injured people to do the piledriver, I can't imagine any scenario in which WWE says "You've broken three people's necks with this? Well, have a go on some of our superstars, I'm sure it'll be fine."

Well, damn it all. Just keep him away from Darren Young. But Darren Young and all of his friends are big fans of AJ Styles!

It seems like things just keep getting better and better for those ex TNA talents. TNA must really have some bad mojo working.
